Hmm, looks like The Three Doctors was uploaded to the regular Doctor Who channel a month ago. There are a few others there as well: Time and the Rani, The Three Doctors, Arc of Infinity, The Mark of the Rani, all of season 17, The Mind Robber, City of Death (already in season 17), The Happiness Patrol, Invasion of the Dinosaurs, Spearhead from Space, and Genesis of the Daleks.

[As the joke goes,] Davison finally got a good story and they killed him off!

Oh piffle, he got a lot of good stories! Just depends on the type of show one likes. Androzani gets the tension and tautness done flawless and nonstop, and yet I've gravitated more to Castrovalva and Snakedance where both have tension and taut moments but also juggle other things. Then again, some people will watch only Androzani. It's all good. :D

An oddity is the season 14 repeats. Hinchcliffe nominated Masque for the 1981 repeats, but it was cut by a week so Logopolis (not an out-of-time thing) ran for the 4th Doctor. Hand was rerun on BBC4 when Lis Sladen died. Assassin was repeated on BBC1 the next year, Face on BBC4 for no real reason except it was 40 years on, and Robots was rerun over the next New Year as 2x 50 minute episodes. So Talons is the only one not repeated, or proposed for repeat.

Time and the Rani makes its way to the classic who channel (it's been available on the regular who channel for about a month)

It's pretty much on the record hat he was largely unhappy with season 20 and decided to leave, but liked season 21 and would have like to have changed his mind.
In view of what happened, getting out before 1985 was probably a good idea in hindsight.

There should be a poll as to what surprised the viewers on that fateful day in 1987 as part one had premiered. Possible answers including, but not limited to:

  • A blond wig vanishing
  • The very 80s pink sky and other very 80s color-schemed effects (which do look good, especially for the time!)
  • Lots of excessive, indulgent silliness that everyone hated by season 17 that JNT ironically wanted to get rid of
  • The good make-up and costuming for the Lakyrtians (see, there's a second good option in here too!)
  • Kate O'Mara being directed to act the Rani more like the Master
  • A reunion of something like half the cast of 1966's "The Faceless Ones"
  • Time index 14:18 speaks for itself...
  • Seeing most bubble traps go off in seconds, yet when Mel gets into one she just spins round and round until the cliffhanger starts (spoiler alert: in pt 2's reprise, she's spinning around for a lot lot longer... hmm, what would Diana Prince do in this situation, since screaming doesn't shatter the bubble...)
  • etc

I'd mention options for the whole story, but even a post's size can only be so large...
