Doctor Who & Blake's 7 - the same universe?

^^ I thought it was great! Personally, I love the characters on that show. Their banter is what made it for me. There's never been a character like Avon, at least that I've seen.

That's plots were sometimes not that great and it had an even smaller budget than Who back in that day. I'd say give it a try.

Mr Awe

Thanks Mr. Awe, I shall definitely giver-a-go:techman:
Is there a comparable show..?? Is it funny, serious, like Buck Rogers? Classic Battlestar Galactica? Or is it quirky and off the wall like Buckaroo Bonzai?

forgive me, as I just want to know what I will be getting into..

Blakes 7 isn't comparable to other shows, other shows are comparable to it

It's kinda like Firefly, only better...

I wasn't too terribly impressed with Firefly, so that isn't saying much..but I hear it has a following, which is okay..

I'll check it out, I like the images of the space ship, though I am wondering is the ball the back or the front??

Drug use, dystopian society, totalitarian governments, child abuse scandal, show trials, corrupt officials, firing squads, space battles, Brian Blessed and an alien spaceship.

And that's just the pilot (which essentially is the first four episodes, FYI).

You missed religious fanaticism, sexual harrassment and death by shaving foam

Plus so much of 1984 that Orwell's relatives should have sued.
And military Supreme Commanders in sheer white satins dresses, and artificial vampires.

Did we mention, you also get brilliant sardonic one-liners on a regular basis?

"He said he was visiting a sick friend. And any friend of his has got to be sick."
"This is stupid," "When did that ever stop us?"
"I've just made the biggest mistake of my life." "I very much doubt that. Someone with your talent for them is capable of far bigger mistakes in future."
"There's two traditional ways of dealing with a hysterical woman. You didn't really expect me to kiss her?"

Oh but you really have to add Vila's last line in there..."You're right, let's hope they all have great legs."

"Regret is part of being alive, but keep it a small part."

"He's an animal, Cally." "Yes and it's contaigious isn't it."

"Imagination my only limit? I'd be dead in a week."

"Don't you get tired of being right?" "Only with the rest of you being wrong."

"And it'll all look better in the morning?" "If it does, you can assume you're on the wrong ship."

Cally: "My people have a saying that a man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken."
Avon: "Life expectancy must be pretty short among your people."

<after Avon kills a guy who then returns to his true form as a green blob>
Girl: "What are they?"
Avon: "Unfriendly, which is fortunate, really; they'd be difficult to love."

Of course, there's just as much of a case for B7 to share the TOS universe- go watch By Any Other Name, and then watch Star One... Go on, do it now...

I might just do that! I'd never noted any similarities, but that might be because whilst I've watched Star One, a lot, By Any Other Name doesn't feature too high on my TOS rewatch list...in fact I can't remember the last time I saw it!

"That one is Cally, I'll introduce her more formally when she wakes up. This one is Vila, I should really introduce you now. He's at his best when he's unconsious."

"Is it that Blake has a genius for leadership, or that you have a genius for being led?"

"You also talk too much."
"Be grateful I'm restricting myself to talking."
"That's fascinating. Do you mean you can do something else?"

"Blake and I have faced death on numerous occasions. I always thought his death and mine would be somehow related."

Considering when this line was actually said....

"You know there's something very suspicious about a man who keeps his booze under lock and key..."

"It's like I always say, stealing's quicker."

"A thief isn't who I am, it's what I am."
