Just back from seeing it and because I'd avoided most of the trailers (and most of the threads before this), everyone but Patrick Stewart was a surprise.
I enjoyed it and am looking forward to seeing the Fantastic Four.

The implication is that Mordo's outright reveal of his new villainy has happened in the years between the first Dr Strange movie and this one, it's happened off-screen.
I mean it's been what; eight or nine years at this point, including the blip? Plenty of time for 616 Mordo to have popped back up between movies. Indeed by the sounds of it he's already tried to kill Stephen at least once.
Anyway, just saw the movies and honestly . . . meh. I guess I'm not a big fan of Rami's style, and I would rather have seen a continuation of the tone and feel established in the first movie. This felt way more generic and cheesy than it really needed to be.
I guess the cameos were fun, it's just a shame social media managed to spoil most of them in the last week or two. Not that would have made it much better.
Not that I disliked the film or anything (beats the crap out of Rami's Spider-Man 3) it just given how inventive both the last movie and Wandavision were, this felt a little hollow for a follow-up.
Hope America Chavez shows up in other stuff though, and is given a little more to do.

This was a great movie. I liked the first Doctor Strange, but this blew it out of the water. It was also extremely Sam Raimi, which is great and I would hope shuts up the MCU haters who say that director's don't influence their films in the MCU (although I know it won't shut up the more obnoxious people).
Wanda was amazing as villain, I honestly don't think she can redeem herself at this point (I say that because I 100% believe she survived the ending, we see a red flash as the building collapses which to me was definitely them giving Wanda an out to survive). She was a genuine horror movie villain for much of the movie, I think the Professor X kill was legitimately haunting (and so was Black Bolt, but that was more his own vault).
America Chavez was great, I don't care about the comic character but I'm invested in this version, I hope she pops up in something sooner rather then later. Wong stayed great, he's just a solid supporting character overall.
We got a lot of cool stuff with Strange. The possesed zombie Strange was a really cool/gross visual and fight, and the two Stranges fighting with magical music was completely unexpected but great. I'm definitely interested in seeing where he goes from here.
Overall this is a top tier MCU film for me, maybe not my absolute favorite but probably a top 5 (although I'd want to rewatch it before giving a definitive rating). I think I even like it better then No Way Home, which was a great movie but I like MCU Dr. Strange as a character better then MCU Spidey, which I think is what puts this movie over that one for me.

$90M opening day, puts it in all-time top 10 in the company of Star Wars, Spider-Man and Avengers movies.
I forgot to mention this part in my review but I really loved that fight sequence. It was a great way to show a different weirdness to their magic. I would've enjoyed it more if it hadn't been for the aforementioned snickering couple who laughed throughout the whole thing.
I hadn't thought about that angle but that is indeed refreshing. But it definitely helps that Theron is one of the few older actresses out there that studios keep casting in leading roles in major films. Things have gotten better in recent years (just look at Michelle Yeoh in everything) but still have a long way to go.
That was a huge highlight for me, too. It reminded me of the Doom Patrol series when Crazy Jane had the superpower of fighting with physical words (like KAPOW! but less safe for work), which was one of the few awesome things I've ever seen in a superhero production that I genuinely thought the MCU would never do. Glad to be wrong on that. And to do it with music notes (and some of my favorite classical music) was even more fun.
About 20% of the shots in this movie were an Evil Dead in-joke . . . and I'm honestly not sure that was a good idea.
Am I the only one that felt said stinger was weirdly incongruous to the end of the movie proper? I mean the set-up was basically the same and the tone really doesn't match.
It's like they filmed two alternate versions of the mid-credit stinger and were like "fuck it, let's use both of them!"
It also probably helps that Theron is clearly an immortal. Indeed, I think it's about time we got a remake of Death Becomes Her, only this time with Theron and Angelina Jolie.

Agreed, this movie was sooooo much fun and finally Marvel got a composer which implemented a real theme and tune for a Marvel character. They're so generic but Danny Elfman embodies the pulses of this movie. Saw it in IMAX - 3D and it was terrifying and just plain fun. This was honestly Elizabeth Olsen's best take as the Scarlet Witch, she was well directed in this movie and she shines. Finally thought she was relevant and man, a must see again!

Yeah, you're probably right. When I wrote my other post, I forgot about No Way Home, which does set a precedent for variants looking different and being different ages. I also excused Sylvie in my other post, but I realize now that being a woman is an even bigger difference than just looking different, or being different ages. So yeah, as much as I'd like to Krasinski to be the 616 Reed, you're probably right, and they probably will go with someone else, although with all of the crazy shit the FF get up there, there's still a chance they could run into another older variant who's also played by Krasinski.
And the fact Strange had never heard of them, probably rules out them being openly active before their movie starts. There's always a chance they've been operating in secret, but with so many other heroes running around now, there's really no reason they'd need to hide.
