Spoilers Do you wish SPOILER had lived? (S2E1 Brother)

I got to say his [Connelly's] death might be the funniest in Trek history. Dying during mid complaining is a pretty fun way to take out a smug know it all. Still I think would be fun for the show to actually have a smug know it all on the show. Especially if they soften Stamets this year. The actor was pretty good and he at least had a distinct personality. The lady in red with the stuff on her face didn't really make much of a impression on me but he did.

I would have preferred they'd never invented the guy at all. They brought over a blatant egotistical, misogynistic, nerdy incel-to-be douchebag with the expressed purpose of being the butt of a few jokes and then killing him. It was over the top and unnecessary.

It's the kind of thing that gives the "Hur-dur. It's SJW shit. Hur-dur." crowd credence and legitimacy.

Okay. Okay. Nothing gives them credence and legitimacy, but you know what I mean.

I wish he would have followed orders from a story POV.

And he looks like a young Paul Ryan...

I have no idea how he came to be and why but i really wish he would had been a better character.

He could have been an interesting foil for Burnham if not written so obviously for the Engineer Olsen Treatment....but ultimately I'd say no. I'd rather they focus on the established regulars and secondary cast rather than bringing in too many new characters.

Part of me doesn't like that they invented a character for the purpose of killing off as a joke, but the other part of me really, really hated Connolly and actually yelled, 'YEAH...IDIOT, GET KILLED!' when he gets killed. It was about the same reaction I had when Landry died from a hard case of being a stupid asshole as well. However, I would have taken a hundred Landry's before having to see Connolly again.

See, the reason why everyone is so friendly in the 24th century is that all these people Darwin'd themselves off during the 23rd, lol.

Amusingly, both Landry and Connolly were killed because they didn't listen to the chosen one.

I didn't care, other than when I saw, I thought, "Oh! So that's who Pike was talking about in the leaked scene!" He was a Red Shirt in Blue Drag. They get killed all the time.

My favorite Red Shirt death is still the one from "By Any Other Name" because they play against expectations. You think the Yeoman will live, because it's the '60s. But nope. She dies.

Runner-up is when some Red Shirt who has Death written all over him screams "It's the Klingons!" at the beginning of "Friday's Child" and then has a spear thrown right at him! That was funny as Hell for all the wrong reasons.

Back to DSC, the one I wish they hadn't killed off so quickly was Landry. But not a big deal. At the time, I thought anyone whose name wasn't Michael Burnham could die. I thought Tilly wouldn't survive the season.

God, I thought you were talking about Billy Connolly for a second. :)
Some think he may be the same unnamed scientist from the Cage. Would make nice reference is so.

Trivia Time (although you may already know this):
The actress who played that Yeoman was the future wife (and ex-wife) of James Cromwell.

What about Red Shirt Mallory from TOS: The Apple?...
"It's over there, that way! I never saw anything like it."
Boom.
