The distress call could be Pike warning Discovery that something has infected him and the crew, or taken over the ship's controls, and they should get away.

A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value....

I'm a fan, and like to be wanked. Don't get vitriol toward 'fan service'.

I don't mind it in small doses. But, when that is pretty much all the show is, I find it tedious.

I'm sure that a group of rogue Ferengi have once again taken over a starship named Enterprise.

We'll soon learn where they got the reputation of being man-eating monsters from.

    That's easy. Stop watching it.

There's a few of us 'round 'ere that like the show. It may not be the best Star Trek, but it is Star Trek.

It's a nice thought, but, unless they factor in a way to seriously handicap the E, I don't see it being much of a fight. Disco is a science ship that no longer has its own brand of space sorcery as an advantage.

The last part is debatable. Take "Star Trek" out of STD and it could be any generic sci-fi show with poor VFX. Could easily be confused for worse written nuBSG. Take ENT for what it's worth, when first couple season's it actually didn't have the name Star Trek in it, people still knew they were watching Star Trek.
And I am not saying I don't like STD. I do give it a solid 4 out of 10 for first season and am looking forward to season 2. Here is to hoping it will get into a solid 5 out of 10 range :D

Fans have written better stuff than that STD premiere... :(

(not referring to recent skirmishes as I've not seen Axanar...)

I also want Discovery to end frankly. But I don't want it to end, frankly. ;)

Yep, it's THAT easy. And if enough people dislike the show and cancel their subscriptions, they may even stop making it and you'll have your wish.

I think the people that don't like it enough to stop watching and cancel their subscriptions are much more vocal than those of us who do like it. Small % of complainers making the most noise doesn't = cancellation.

I've been a harsh critic of DISCO and quit watching at the midseason break. I found the majority of the writing to be gimmicky, sub-par, everything-plus-the-kitchen-sink nonsense. But that's my opinion of the show, and my expressions of that viewpoint are not intended to sway others away from watching. I'm glad Star Trek is back on television, frankly. ;) While DISCO isn't my cup of tea, my hope is its success will lead to additional Trek series that I may find more appealing. Wishing for a show's cancellation is just petty.

Wishing for it would be spite.

Taking some satisfaction in the event would be vindication.

It will be interesting to see what this series leads to next. What should be clear to everyone by now is that the fantasies of some folks who longed to see Enterprise cancelled - that its failure would "teach Paramount a lesson" and encourage a return to DS9/Voyager era-and-style Star Trek - were myopic. The past ain't comin' back, Superman's red Speedo to the contrary.

Would much rather see Enterprise and Discovery work together on some crisis. That would be a lot of fun. Always liked episodes where two starfleet ships were working the same problem together like NX-01 and NX-02.
