Do you want to be famous?

I don't necessarily mean a movie star or pop singer or anything. Do you want to be famous? Maybe you discover something and become well-known in your field. Maybe you become the CEO of your company, and even if people don't know you, they at least know your name. Maybe you're just really awesome at what you do and your name starts to circulate. Would you want that kind of fame? Do you already have that kind of fame? Or do you like being unknown to the masses?

Actually, I am (somewhat) famous in my car hobby. My name is passed around as a "go to guy" for parts, information, and other stuff. It is sometimes weird and scary, because people will come up to me at car shows and say, "Oh, so your... I've heard a lot about you". Weird, because I don't think I'm any more special or knowledgeable than many others in the hobby.

I don't want to be famous. I'd rather be a known-name (like a well-respected author) but have no one know my face. I'd much rather be successful and wealthy than famous.

None of which will EVER happen, but hey, a girl can dream...... ;)

I want to be filthy rich... no desire to be famous. It would be cool to be on 60 Minutes as CEO of a revolutionary company though.

I don't really care about being famous or important. Rich would be awesome though.

Like John Picard I've got a small amount of notoriety in my hobby. I've never really gotten used to strangers coming up to me as SF conventions but I do enjoy meeting people who share my interests and I'm perfectly happy if they email me with questions. For me the only time it can get distasteful is when a few people have tried to use me to get close to a particular (fairly minor) celebrity.

From hanging out on the fringes of a few fairly famous people I can say that I *definitely* would not want to be famous. As far as I can see, the loss of privacy, stalkers and other disadvantages far outweigh any advantages.

I do not want to become Famous but would not mind being rich.
I can understand people who have no money becoming famous so they can get rich but i can never understand why rich people want to become famous.

People know me in my field, but I don't do it for the fame, just a geeks passion for gaming and hardware

I wouldn't want to be famous as in recognized in public; I prefer anonymity. But I'd like recognition in limited circles: commendations at work, pleased responses on-line, etc.
