Do You Use Closed Captioning?

Generally... no. I usually keep my TV loud enough to understand what's being said. If there's an accent I can't understand -- well, I guess I'll just have to hope it wasn't a crucial line.

Dammit... I meant to put a poll in but I hit send too soon. Can mods add polls in after the fact? If so, thank you!

Unfortunately, no (at least, I didn't see any way to do it when I tried hitting edit on your original post).

If you want, you can start another thread with a poll and I can merge all the posts here with that one. I don't think it's really necessary though, since it's basically just a yes or no question and everyone is giving their answers in the thread anyway.

In answer to your question, yes, I occasionally use closed captioning when I miss a bit of dialogue and want to go back and hear it again. My hearing is pretty bad, so it's helpful.

As a Swede I'm used to having subtitles on the TV as we don't dub anything. Sometimes it can be really distracting since it is very hard to not read it, even if you don't really need it. That in turn can be confusing since you are trying to understand the spoken word at the same time as concentrating on reading text, i.e. two languages simultaneously.

Generally I don't use subtitles when watching DVD's etc. but in certain types of movies it can be really helpful (those kinds of movies where the volume of the spoken word is low compaired to the background sounds).

My hearing is pretty good but sometimes I use subtitles as it makes the story easier to follow.

I'm somewhat hearing impaired, so I sometimes use the CC. It's hilarious for live T.V., though, especially news. They get so much stuff wrong!

I prefer using subtitles on DVDs if they have them.

My hearing is fine, but I always have closed captions on. It makes it much easier to understand what is going on. It's not at all distraction to me. Of course, I'm often watching more than one thing or online while watching TV. I nearly always am on my laptop as well.

Yes. Mostly because I'm slightly hard of hearing due to my cerebral palsy. It annoys my girlfriend no end. But she tolerates it because it annoys her more when without the CC whenever we watch something and I ask her "What did he say?".
