Do you think this film would have made more money if...

Norrin Radd

Vice Admiral
...it has been held off for a few years?

It's already been 4 years since Enterprise ended, but it doesn't feel that long.

Maybe it could have benefitted more if Trek had been completely off the entertainment radar for 5-10 years.

Nah, most people haven't watched Trek for awhile anyway. For them, it's been off since First Contact aired ;)

Not really... I think the economy is driving more people out to the movies than usual, and that Star Trek's optimistic nature has revived its appeal.

I know I'm happy it was delayed from Xmas to summer though.

Ironically though, I think it could've done better at Christmas. Looking back, it was a pretty weak slate at that time.

No - it stands or falls on it's story and accessibility.

It seems to have triumphed on both and removed the anal aspect of Trekdom.

no. absolutely not.

if they did that, Trek would suffer the fate of the latest X-Files movie.

this was the best time to re-enter the fray. from here on, we can only go up. I am betting on the next movie to be written better, btw. given that, if they do everything else they've done with this movie, the next movie will make a ton more.

No, but I do think that it could have made even more money if Tyler Perry had been Admiral Madea instead of Admiral Barnett.

You're assuming people actually watched Enterprise, lol!

Seriously though most people, other than the hard core fans, stopped watching Star trek 10 years ago or more.

Many of the people going to see it in the theaters weren't aware that Enterprise even existed, nor Voyager, nor DS9, though they might possibly have noticed TNG. As far as the majority of the potential audience knew, Trek had been off the air for more than a decade.

So no, I don't think that waiting a few more years would have made a significant difference in box-office take.

No. I think what it's making now is the best case scenario. Trek's success is being powered by non-fans going to the movie, and waiting longer wouldn't have changed much since they probably have little conception of the last few shows/movies.

Remember, even Batman Begins (after an 8 year break) only made $205 million.

Reboots are the current trend, so no. I think the people will be quite sick of them by the time Spider Man 6 hits the theaters in 2015.
