do you think the tovok marthon is burtal.

10k is pretty lame for a semi-military organization. You'd need to have the stamina to be able to handle that sort of slog just to be considered admittable. Good thing Tuvok didn't make that lardass Chakotay do the run as well, he'd be cashiered from the service.

10k (I'm assuming kilometers) doesn't seem like that much. Although I admittedly don't know off hand how that compares to miles, but in the military we had to do a 2 mile run and a 25 mile march to graduate.

10km is a shade over 6 miles

Yeah a 2 mile run seems a very short distance for the military. I thought they made you do that just to get to breakfast.

Well, we typically ran more then that most days, but the actual AFPT to graduate consists of a 2 mile run that must be completed within a certain time limit, and a minimum number of situps and pushups withing two minutes. I think the navy, marines, and airforce differs from the one i went through. Oh, and a 25 mile forced march (think speed-walking while carrying about 150 lbs)

I don't see why they would need a particularly tough fitness routine ON A SHIP.

It's just like how in the real military, the fitness standards for the Army and Marines are stricter than for Air Force or Navy for obvious reasons.

but this was about tuvok establishing discipline.

Actually, they really aren't that different. They do very a bit, as I said above. The marines to pull-ups instead of push-ups. And also do an 18-minute 3 mile instead of a 13-minute 2 mile. While the navy does a 1.5 mile run and two swimming events. But over all I would think the level of fitness is mostly the same.

As for trek, they may be on a ship but how often do they find themselves running for their lives on a planet. Or hell, even running for their lives on the ship itself.

But I agree with you, this was about Tuvok establishing discipline. And I think anyone who is in the military can tell you that making you run till you puke is a pretty effective tool to that end.
