Do you think the people who make ST take any notice of this board?

:eek::eek::eek::eek:

I think, I hope, if they do, they take one per cent of it and come up with something one hundred times better.

Was ST11 'compiled' from questionnaires and focus groups?

I don't think Gene Roddenberry worked that way.

Gene Roddenberry was once reported to have said "If I did what the fans wanted, the show would be shit."

Personally, I think that a Star Trek film that incorporates all the major message board gripes and suggestions would make a very funny Scary Movie-style spoof.

I think they go through about six months of this board in one week of meetings and come up with something completely different. They think a lot faster than us.

I seriously doubt it. There are millions of Star Trek fans with millions of opinions. Every artist has fans who will like some things they do and hate other things they do. An artists can only create his vision and see what the response to it is.

I meant that they don't trawl through this board. The things we are coming up with, are occuring to people all over the world,as they think about ST and the world and where we are going and what has gone before.

They just do it quicker and more decisivelyand actually come up with something, which few of us can do!

Well, I know that a couple of writers from VOY/ENT actually have posted on this board...

Do you include Trek literature in your question? Of course, a bunch of official Trek lit writers and some of the editors have been posting in that subforum.

Mike Sussman has been known to post here every now and then.

I don't think Gene Roddenberry knew what he was talking about when he said - "If I did what the fans wanted, the show would be shit." Trek has, until recently, only gotten better since his passing.

I watched a behind the scenes interview video clip online where writers Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman had went through Transformer fan message boards to see what fans wanted to see and not see.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if they read this board at some point in the past or in the near future, especially seeing Trekbbs is at the top of the listings for Star Trek forums at Google.

...and we still got the Transformers movies we did? :wtf:

If that's so, then I'd say it lends credence to Gene's quote.

@Admiral Shran: But that's because better showrunners came up, not because they listened to the fans.

The list of shitty episodes written by and/or produced under Roddenberry's watchful eye can now commence . . .

Justice.

The point is here.

You guys are waaaaaaaaaay over here.

It's not to say that GR was amazing (frankly, I don't enjoy huge chunks of TOS or much any of TNG S1), but that consistently giving way to fan demands would only make a show worse.
