Do you think LGBT characters will feature more prominently?

Im a white englisman but captain sisko is my favorite captain even though he is blackman from new orleans. He was a ethic minority but he was never a token.

He wasn't a token character to you, but his most important feature to a lot of people was his skin colour. Feeling that race and sexuality shouldn't matter or shouldn't be too prominent is in itself a privilege that a lot of people don't have, because they're constantly reminded that they live in a world where they are on the outside looking in.

Everyone wants well-written characters, but that has never stopped standards from being applied differently when those characters also represent ethnic and sexual minorities. If it's just the quality of the writing that bothers you I think you can relax. Fuller is one of the most skilled tv writers who have emerged this side of the 00s. He has high standards and doesn't work with crap actors. From a pure quality point of view I have little doubt that Discovery will be the best Trek show yet.

Late to the discussion, but to answer the question: while IRL there is only a 6-10 percent chance in running into an LGTBQ+ person on any given day, I do expect Fuller to have a main character be of this persuasion. So, yeah. After all, if Sulu can come out as gay, I doubt Fuller will not follow suit with an already established gay character. My question will be whether or not said character will be Terran. If not, I vote for Deltan, who are open about sexual exploration and acceptance.

Sisko was more than a skin colour.
To say anything else is just plain wrong.

While true, you can not remove the fact that his skin color was a big drawl for many people. Maybe outside the US, its not a big an issue. But here, the fact you had a black man as captain, was seen as a big deal. The same way as having a woman be captain was a big deal. He was not one note, but you can't remove the fact he was black from it.

Shran just had to call him a "Stinking no good pink skin" once.

Game over.

Shran could still be alive in the 24th century, and... Sisko turned into God at the end of DS9.

Novels don't count. Canonically Andorians have males and females only.
TNG Data's day.

TROI: Good luck.
DATA: There are many opinions. On Galvin Five, a marriage is considered successful only if children are produced within a year of the wedding. Andorian marriages require groups of four people unless
TROI: Data, would you like my advice on how to help them? Don't. This is something they have to work out for themselves.

Depending on what "unless" means, four in a marriage, but they've not got four genders?

Why would a gay Klingon be an outcast for being gay?

They despise comfort.

Vaginas are designed for penetrative sex and giving birth.

Bottoms are not.

It's more difficult to have anal sex comfortably without error or damage (less padding, no natural lube), and more difficult to give birth anally at all.

Sticking it in the bum seems at the very heart of the Klingon ideal, whether it is hetero anal sex or homo anal sex.

I was thinking along the lines of the Klingons being a patrical socitey and how that could play into it.

Being gay does not stop you from having babies.

(Adoption or test tubes come to mind immediately.)

Being a gay klingon, and yet still having sex with a woman, to have a baby, sounds incredibly Klingon.

"AFRAID!!!???? BRING ME A VAGINA RIGHT NOW, AND I'LL SHOW YOU WHO IS AFRAID!"

Well the only race I can see on frowning on gays is vulcans.

Im still trying to see how in the ENT novels when they mentioned a gay vulcan it works. I think that a example of inappropriate shoehorning.

Its not logical. There is no practical benfit unlike hetero relationships which bare children. And choicing ones mate based on attraction is a emotional idea not suited to a true vulcans.

I doubt they would actively discriminate against a vulcan if they did choose that path, but it would likely not go further than tolerating as they would view that vulcan as being emotional.

Even interspecies male/female seem to be a exception rather than a rule with spock being slightly looked down upon with his half human side by other vulcans.

Of course when it comes to other species and what they do i doubt they would care as we are just emotional and illogical by nature.
