Do you think LGBT characters will feature more prominently?

Nero goes through creating a new timeline where spock doesn't follow him. Then back in the prime timeline Spock follows Nero, creating a third time line where Nero is already there.
This kind of go to a problem I've always had with ST'09, Nero goes first, initially emerges in the prime universe and then creates a new universe. Spock goes through second and emerges decades into Nero alternate universe.

Shouldn't Spock have initially emerged in the prime universe just as Nero did?

Let not forget that this thread isn't exclusively about the Abram timeline movies, but also about the up coming series. So the timeline in discussion isn't automatically that of the Abrams'.

I've read nothing indicating that the next series is set in the Abrams-verse.
The current version of the Star Trek universe is the Kelvin one. Since we're seeing LGBT representation in these films, that makes them the current authority on the issue.

Hopefully we'll see an LGBT character or two in the new series, though. Star Trek should always look forward in that regard.

If the red matter event was a natural temporal shield, then the prime universe was replaced by the kelvin universe in 2380-something before Spock left the temporally protected bubble around the red matter event, even though Abrams claimed that the prime universe is fine.

They've already said inclusiveness and diversity will be represented in the series. The first Star Trek to say it and probably the first to actually mean it. At this point it's purely catching up to 10-15 years of everything else on the planet beating them to it but still.

That My Little Pony had a gay couple 6 years before Star Trek should be something we never let them forget about.

(Or closer to ten years if you count the couple in Generation 3)

Yeah, MLP beat them to it, and not only are they a great couple, but also best friends.

when it finally does happen
we can welcome this inclusive futuristic show
to the 21 century

Here the thing. There is nothing wrong with a gay character. Long as they are not the "the gay character".

Nothing worse than a token character.

Dr who the worst for it as every gay character make it there core trait and reminds everyone of the fact every other line, normally through innuendo as subtle as a GOT sex scene.

No gay friends or people work colleges spend all there time mincing around reminding everyone of the fact every 2 minutes. Same way I don't go round reminding everyone I'm hetro. Hell I be locked up for sexual discrimination if I did!

Every character is some kind of token.

They're there to be identified with.

Some are more blunt than others.

And the future, where everyone is a little smarter, is very unkind when inspecting history.

Thats a fallacy.

A character can appeal to more than one audience.

Im a white englisman but captain sisko is my favorite captain even though he is blackman from new orleans. He was a ethic minority but he was never a token.

A gay characters defining trait does not need to be that he is a flamming homosexual and nothing more just to appeal to the gay audience. In fact such caricatures piss off the gay people i know.

Its lazy half baked writing to have token characters that appeal to specific audiences.

Star Trek is a different beast, one that pats itself on the back for being progressive. So, yes, Star Trek does need representation from a long repressed segment of society.

Hows that racist?

Thats like saying straight men who only fancy women are homophobes.

Sexual attraction is diffrent to racism.
It wasn't meant to be a serious post. But it just seems strange that far into 24th century black people seem only to marry other black people - this applies to both Ben and Joseph Sisko, who had been married more than once.

At least Geordi tried - but seemed to be naturally unlucky in this case ;)

Male rape is a very serious matter that doesn't get as much focus as sexual assault against women.
True but the only thing I can think about now is if he was imagining he's sleeping with Curzon :O Shouldn't have started this theme in the first place.

Please quote were I said there should be no gay character?

Because i didnt.

I said they they should not be a token caricature designed to appeal to a single group.

A well written character can appeal to multiple groups.
