Do you think Dune would work as a TV series?

A show covering all six Dune books written by Frank Herbert and only those books (no lame sequels written by his son). Do you think it would work?

Well a live action Dune series was talked about briefly after the airing of the excellent Children of Dune mini-series aired. Personally I think a Dune Chronicles series would be way too expensive to produce as an ongoing series but yes I think if you got the right writers and casting I think it would work. I wouldn't bother referencing the books written by Herbert and Anderson unless we got to the final book in the series. I think that if you did it like HBO's Rome or something like that and had thirteen episodes for each book that it might work.

i would love to see a Dune series, but i dont understand why all the hate for the dune books by brian herbert and kevin j anderson, i enjoyed the "House" trilogy and the books covering the war against the thinking machines, and "Paul of Dune", i havent read the last two yet, or the new "Winds of Dune", but i think a series incorperating them all would work well.

Paul of Dune and Winds of Dune (formerly known as Jessica of Dune) were quite good actually especially Paul of Dune which I thought was the closest the two of them had at returning to the style of Frank but meshing it with their stuff. I just don't like they're writing style. A lot of people I've talked to and read on line seem to like they're books and that's all and good. For someone who's read Frank's book growing up and was looking forward to more Dune it just wasn't the same.

What I was really looking forward to and obviously we never got was an adaption of "God Emperor of Dune" which is my favorite book in the series. I read that John Harrison (who wrote and directed the sci-fi channel series) had wrote a draft and hoped to get funding for it but the project was dropped. It would be a very complicated and most likely expensive project to produce IMO being the most complex book of the series. Getting James McAvoy to reprise his role of Leto II will probably be impossible now unless you did it as a theatrical film.

What exactly are you suggesting? A Dune TV show, with each season devoted to a particular book? It's an interesting idea, but it would pretty much require a commitment to six seasons, which isn't really a guarantee for most shows.

Indeed, I actually have enjoyed most of Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson's books. Yes, they aren't Frank Herbert, but they're still entertaining books in their own right.

Well, if it got cancelled before completion, oh well.

I think it has potential in the right hands of course. I think Harry Potter would similarly work well though obviously the films would have to run their course before anyone would seriously think about that.

I think like I said it could work in a thirteen episode format on HBO or something like that but I still think it'd be too expensive to produce.
