"Collect"? No, no more than I "collect" fountain pens.

I buy recorded music on CD to actually listen to (and in the case of my annual Christmas bulk order auditions, I buy every new-release CD prominently featuring an organ that's at least predominantly real pipes, on at least predominantly direct tracker key action, in order to select the one that has the best combination of mass appeal, quality of music, quality of performance, and a good demonstration of the subtle nuances possible when one is able to directly control wind-onset, and therefore note envelope transients. And I have more than a dozen feet of shelf space devoted to my CD library (and another three feet to vinyl, much of which has never seen a CD release). But "collecting" implies either investment, or completism, or both (I will admit to a certain level of completism with respect to the recordings of mezzo-soprano Joan Morris and her pianist/composer husband William Bolcom, just as I'll admit to a certain level of completism with respect to books by certain authors, and to ST books, but not in general, and if I de-accession a CD, it's invariably because I'm giving it away.

I likewise buy DVDs (season sets of ST, Emergency, Banacek, Quincy, and so forth included) to actually watch, but not as "collectibles." And as I recall, I don't currently have a functioning Blu-Ray player in the house. Multiple DVD players, though. And so I have only a couple of movies on Blu-Ray, both of which I also have on DVD.

And generally, any fountain pen that sits in a drawer instead of in my breast pocket is one that I retired, or that somebody gave me in complete disregard for my taste (which is why I have a Parker 25 that has only ever seen service as a "backup" pen), or that I bought, only to find it completely impractical to actually use.
Collecting, meaning to watch/listen on disc rather than stream.

At any rate, though, in addition to the aforementioned many feet of shelf space of CDs, I have a fairly large library of DVDs. But only a couple of Blu-Rays, because the only Blu-Ray player in the house (a gift from my boss, who was getting rid of it) took at least 5 minutes to IPL itself, and another 5 minutes to mount the media, and the last time I tried it, the media never did mount. And I don't think I've gotten around to replacing it (although I may be mistaken on that). Pity, because I had to buy a switch-box in order to have enough HDMI inputs on the TV. (On the other hand, my new stereo receiver has just enough inputs that I could retire all my audio switch-boxes. And it gets great reception on KUSC, although I had to fabricate an adapter to use the roof antenna with it, because of a nonstandard connector.)

IPL, your Blu-ray player did what?

It's an old IBMism: IPL=Initial Program Load.

You turn it on, 5 minutes later it would be ready to use. Dunno why.

You insert your BD, and close the drawer, and 5 minutes later, the main menu would come up. Again, dunno why.

If you are unsatisfied, I think this is what I have: click here! This one is almost $200. There are other cheaper models. Amazon has similar LG Blu-ray prayers for similar prices, I saw one close to $100. Mine is maybe 5 years old, and I have zero problems with it. It loads fast every single time, and I've never needed to connect it to the internet. Plays CD's, DVD's, Blu-ray discs, with zero problems. You can also use the USB port to plug in a flash drive or external harddrive to watch downloaded content or look at pictures. It's a nice model. Take a look around Amazon and ask around here on TrekBBS.

Technology upgrades are an extremely low priority with me.

I'm not suggesting you upgrade the whole house, just your Blu-ray player, and only if you want to.
For me, movie-watching is an experience, so I need a player that can deliver. :D

For casual viewing I don't bother with pulling out discs and keeping players connected to every TV in the house. Though I still buy discs regularly, they all get put onto my Plex server shortly afterwards.

62 TB for my film, TV and music library, and the discs are placed in storage of varying convenience. Blu rays and 4K are readily accessible, and DVDs and CDs are kept in climate controlled storage in my back yard workshop.

One of my bugbears is when not all extras are ported over from one release to another, usually because they were spread over a couple of disks. I still have my DVDs of 'Empire of Dreams' from the first 'Star Wars' DVD boxset and the DVDs for the prequels because not everything came over. The same is true for 'Die Another Day' and the deluxe edition of 'Casino Royale'.
Empire of Dreams was included as part of the 9-disc "Complete Saga" Blu-Ray set from 2011, but I don't know if it was ported over to the reissues or the ridiculously insane "Skywalker Saga" 4K package.

I also remembered another example too, since I recently bought a 4K set of the first six Mission: Impossible movies. Most of the regular content is included, but some of the extras from the 3rd and 4th entries were omitted for whatever reason. Thankfully, I still have my old Blu-Rays, so I can make custom sets for those as well.

No it wasn't.

The long-form documentaries in that set are:

The Making of Star Wars (1977)
The Empire Strikes Back: SPFX (1980)
Classic Creatures: Return of the Jedi (1983)
Anatomy of a Dewback (1997)
Star Warriors (2007)
Star Wars Tech (2007)
A Conversation with the Masters: The Empire Strikes Back 30 Years Later (2010)
Star Wars Spoofs (2011)

I just checked the booklet in my set, and it turns out you're right; I stand corrected. My mistake; I could've sworn it was included. Thankfully, YouTube has the whole thing.

I still get DVDs because they can be the cheap option (or they're being given away) but I do notice the quality difference with a BluRay disc and prefer them. I have an LG player that's great, yet I haven't quite taken the step to declare I need all BluRay. I may be far behind when everyone else has 4k or 8k and beyond, we'll see. For nostalgia, I have a few VHS tapes kicking around and a VCR as well! :)

For now, all 3 disc formats co-exist. There's DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K is the newest for now. I have an LG player too! Had it for years, zero problems.

If memory serves, I've had two Blu-Ray players since 2010. I think the first one lasted maybe five or six years (not sure), and the second still works but I disconnected it to set up my 4K machine. I told my roommate he could use it, once he gets a replacement bedroom TV (his old one burned out, so now he watches the big one in the living room).

It's on the 2004 DVD set, which is why I've kept that one.
