Do you read sci fi books on Amazon Kindle

...You created an account to make one thread & one comment, advertising a self published ebook on amazon? Seems a little suspicious to me....

I've read all The Expanse novels on my Kindle as I can't stand the audiobook narrator and I've run out of shelf space - they're good but I don't want to get rid of other, more seminal SF works to make room for them. I'll probably buy the anthology of short stories as well when it's published next year. Otherwise, I usually only buy non-fiction books to read on Kindle. I tend not to read schlock SF if I can avoid it even if the enthusing Amazon reviews do not appear to be written by shills.

I mean if u have kindle unlimited u can read many books for free instead of buying them one by one.

I'm not even tempted to spend £0.99 per month for the first three months and £7.99 per month thereafter if there's nothing that I want to spend my time reading. Almost no ebook that I buy is available on Unlimited. It's not a lot of money but it would still be money wasted.

And more importantly than money wasted, time wasted. Apologies to the OP if I am wrong, but if you want to hawk your book here at least be honest about it. "I wrote this book and I would really like you to check it out." works a lot better. I am happy to support independently published authors and often buy a book that I might not even read.

What is it that bothers you? I listed to the first two on audiobook and didn't have a problem. There are some that I can't stand though. Especially those who try to do the opposite gender in a weird voice.

Not the person you're asking but adding in: I listen to a lot of audiobooks. I usually have one audiobook going for walking, exercising, driving, etc. and one book to read. Generally I'm ok with them doing different sexes, but sometimes when they do other races it can get a little, uh, weird & discomforting, for lack of a better term

I listen to audiobooks at work. I just prefer the narrator to do voices in their own voice if possible. I've listened to a few where a female narrator will do a gruff voice like a monster or a male narrator will do a high pitched wailing hysterical voice for a woman. It's just obnoxious.

Did you ever watch Angel? There was a recurring character named Holtz, a vampire hunter. The actor did the recording for a couple books I listened to last year. A few of the characters in the books were Japanese. That did not work out well:crazy:

I find the reader's (Jefferson Mays) accent grating and difficult to follow. It's an exception because I don't usually have a problem with listening to audiobooks read by Americans except when they're mangling the pronunciation of foreign place names (especially British ones) and technical terms. I'd probably understand him just fine if he were merely acting in something. It's having to listen to him for a sustained period of time that I find wearisome. It's not a big deal - I just read the book the old-fashioned way instead.

I have a Google tablet, but my e-books are split between Google Books, the Kindle app, and the Nook app. Once I finish up everything I have on my Nook app, I'll probably stop using that one.
