My opinion varies on what type of bass it is. 5 or 6 string basses are designed especially well for a clear & pretty multitone sound. Some acoustic bass guitars are as well. However, I never cared for hearing more than one note at a time from a standup bass/bass violin

I've been playing trumpet for 20 years now. I'm almost decent.

I'm just going to put this here. Doc Severinson is still alive people! Almost everyone associated with Johnny Carson's Tonight show is dead, 2 shows over. Jimmy Fallon has been the host for almost a decade now, after Leno shoehorned out like 3 different guys to monopolize it for over 2 decades,

& yet Doc, at 95, lives on my friends. We really ought to be recognizing & celebrating all nonagenarian entertainers as much as we did Betty White.

I remember Doc came to my high school to do a jazz clinic. He even performed with us. We all thought he was the greatest. Nice to hear he's still with us!

And on the show he was :censored:ing HILARIOUS in his interactions with Johnny.

Doc Severinson is an absolute gem imho, & back when I was regularly playing in groups, he was what I considered to be the 2nd best living role model for how to play, surpassed only Wynton Marsalis.

I know many people and their kids that do. But somehow I am just awful. I tried several and it was decided I was tone deaf or something!

First time trying an instrument is ridiculous. (I think, it's been a while)
7th time can be little bit easier.
    Keep trying.
Tone deaf or not you can still play.

    I didn't pick up a guitar till I was 53
I managed to achieve a decent intermediary level of playing after about 7 years
But 3 years later, arthritis in my hands has made playing more difficult and I've regressed a bit

I feel your your pain with the arthritis, I had to give up things too because of it. I do know people who have picked up things later in life. So I guess there is always hope. :)
on a different note, I still sing a bit, not well, my voice changed on me with age, so can't hit the high notes. And my throat really hurts after singing...Just not meant to be a song bird.
