Do you name your cars? If so, what?

My cars never had a "name", but a nickname.

Fiat 500 was "Bimba" ("Baby")
Fiat 128 was "Bolide" ("Hotrod" but also "Shooting Star")
Ford Fiesta was "Iguanamobile" (well, self-explanatory)
Toyota Yaris is currently "Hagane" (Japanese for "Steel").

My very first car was an old Buick Bonneville named Tarkus.

My Datsun was The Marshmellow.

And oddly i never named a car since. Huh.

My 1969 VW Beetle was called "Pete Best". The car after that, a Ford Tempo in horrid condition, was "The Ghetto Blue Ford", especially after one of the front panels fell off and was replaced with one in a slightly different blue. Subsequent cars have not had names.

  • 1989 Subaru sedan - "The Thud" (license plate had the letters THD)
  • 1991 Toyota Cressida - Formally, "The Sutherlin" (name of the dealership decal) but usually "The Gakk" (license plate had the letters GKK)
  • 1997 Chevy Malibu - "Pacifica" - named for New Pacifica of Earth 2
  • 2007 Toyota RAV4 - "Serenity" - guess! ;)

I've never owned a car, but a couple of my friends have had cars with nicknames.

One friend had a bright-green '68 Chevy Nova we nicknamed the Neon Nightmare.

Another had a bright-blue mid-80s Ford Escort that got nicknamed the Blue Battle Beast. Ironically, of course.

I haven't owned a vehicle in years. But back when I did drive I followed the Bruce Wayne Guide to Naming Vehicles® and called them all the Dagmobile™.

A dark blue 2006 Toyota Camry Solara--his name is Gilgamesh.

better hope you never get into an accident with someone driving Enkidu. ;)

Gilly has a little pound puppy at the rear-seat headrest. HIS name is Enkidu.;)

I have named every computer I've owned "HAL". :D

My computers are Aeschylus and Albert. Well, when you first power up a computer, you're asked for a name, right? If Hubby gets a big Mac like he wants (so he can see the screen easier)--that one will be named Agammemnon.

So, I like the letter "A" for computers.

Our cars are know as That heap of shit and That other heap of shit.

My Macs have always been named. The one I'm typing on now is called Firefly and the server next to me is called The Doctor.

I do not name inanimate objects with anything other than functional or descriptive names, because it is a very silly thing to do.

A friend nicknamed a beat up Toyota pickup I was driving Crummy, and it stuck. My dad totaled it a couple years back. Haven't named any cars since. Not good.. to get... attached *sob*

I'm not much into the whole naming-cars thing. Prior to my current car, I had a 1993 Ford Escort which I nicknamed “The Gelding” -- for obvious reasons.
1991 Plymouth Acclaim - “Rainmaker” (Wipers never worked, headlights would stop working randomly, brakes would fail once in a while, no airbag);
Sounds more like it should have been called “Widowmaker”! Or “Widower-maker,” as the case may be.

Is it nerdy that I named my calculator?
Yes.

You got something against being silly?
