Do you live in/near a dry county?

Here in Auburn, I'm fairly certain that I can't buy drinks on Sunday. Otherwise, no.

I actually bought some beer a few hours ago.

The supermarket next door sells beer and wine (and Twisted Tea  ). I have a liquor store up the street. There's a restaurant a few doors up the street that sells booze. That's within walking distance. Within a couple of minutes of driving, there are more supermarkets that sell beer and wine (and Twisted Tea  ) and at least one Chinese Restaurant that sells booze with little umbrellas.

Are there really such things as dry counties?

My friend lives in a dry county. As far as I know, that's the closest one (in a different state, at least an hour away).

Interestingly, the poll redirects to a pointless test poll that was supposed to have been deleted. Had that been done, it would work in this thread.

I suppose I could understand a county or state that doesn't allow the sale of alcohol on Sunday, I cannot understand the idea behind a "dry" county, or anywhere for that matter.

Allowing the consumption of alcohol was clearly intended by the Founding Fathers, for it was Benjamin Franklin who said, "Beer. Proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

Being German, the concept of 'dry counties' is very alien to me. All our festivities revolve around drinking alcohol (well, are an excuse to get completely wasted).

England is about as wet as it gets (and not just because it rains all the time), with chavs drinking cheap cider on every other street corner.

When i was a kid I used to stay at my grandmothers house in the summers in DeRidder seat of Beauregard Parish in Louisiana.
It was dry and dying to my LA raised eyes. The industry seemed to be retired soldiers from Fort Polk. At Fort Knox the surrounding counties are dry so more so then other Army bases women came to the servicemen's clubs, it almost looked like the movies.

Kansas technically didn't have open bars, you had to buy a club membership to get into one.

But none of the restrictions have been a problem because i never have drank.

Australia doesn't have any dry 'counties'.

However there are some aboriginal communities that have elected not to allow alcohol to be brought into their settlements.

To get a drink, if I wanted one, I only have to go to my local pub about a kilometre away.

You've obviously never been to the Bible-belt. I'm in Oklahoma, where there are 77 counties, half of which are dry.

How odd. The poll says I don't have permission to vote.
The poll ID number matched an old Briefing Room poll from 2005. The only people who will able to vote in this are mods and admins. Best bet is to start a new thread and re-do the poll.

I forgot about that old bingo game. What does the OP win?

For the record, I live in a wet county.
