Do you know anyone who has become a Trekker because of this movie?

I'm wondering if you know anyone who had no real previous interest in Star Trek before this movie, and after seeing it has now become a Trekker because of it. I personally don't know anyone who has become a Trekker because of this, but do you? I'm sure there are a lot of new Trekkers as a result of this movie. And for that, thank you JJ Abrams for keeping Star Trek alive. :)

I know a LOT of people looking forward to the next Abrams Star Trek ... not so much new fans of the rest of the mythos though.

While I was waiting in line to enter the theater, I stood behind a group of kids who had never seen any Trek before. I told them about how I've seen every second of canonical Trek, gone to dozens of conferences, and how Trek has profoundly influenced my life.

I hope that I convinced them to become Trekkies.

Aren't you jumping the gun a bit too fast? Give the people time to watch the other Star Trek series. Maybe some of them will watch a trek episode on TV or even buy some DVDs. Then maybe some new people will hook up to Star Trek. Or maybe some will say:"bah, not enough explosions and the cgi sucks!!". :)

Didn't people pretty much stop becoming "Trekkers" around the time TNG wrapped up?

Never liked that word... pretentious. I'm a Trekkie.

That said, one movie is not enough to create a Trekkie or a Trekker.

Since seeing the movie, my girlfriend has been watching anything Trek related that has been on TV and wants to watch some TOS episodes and the movies. I think I've got myself a keeper. :)

Strange, but mine too. Instead of just watching House and Heroes and such series together we know watch (re-watch for me of course) TOS and Enterprise, and Trekmovie-wise we saw all of'em together in one week (except for TFF, I couldn't put her through that :P)

I don't think it will produce many fans who want to watch the back catalogue. It will produce millions of people who will go and watch the next movie.

The movie has brought a lot of closet Trekkers out. All the STARFLEET International clubs that were able to mount any kind of recruitment effort report getting many new recruits.

Our club, with no effort, other than the presence of my car, recruited more people after one showing than we have at all other events (mostly conventions) put together.

I'm really sorry to break this to you, but I doubt it.

If I were at the theater for a movie I don't really know and someone told me how profoundly that franchise impacted his or her life. Well, I'd be scared as hell and run away. Fast.

Outside one person who's conversion is going nicely, a few people have shown interest in seeing more and asking what to see/avoid.

But mostly I've just been happily reading many positive reports from non fans - no idea if they'll explore out of that yet.

Starfleet clubs? Recruits? Whut? :wtf:

I've been a fan of Star Trek since 1992, I've watched every movie, every series and I own most of the Star Trek pocket books. However, it seems I'm not a "Trekkie", because I've got absolutely no idea what you're talking about. At all.

A lot of general audience people are fans of this movie and looking forward to the next one, but they really don't care about the rest of the franchise. I bet out of 10 newcomers that liked or loved this movie, perhaps 1 person would look up the previous TV shows and movies.

Thats why I'm thinking they'll end up with one of the DVD/Blue Ray edtions they'll have a 'what came before' type thing.

Purely from a marketting standpoint it would be a good plan to get a few more 'Prime' DVD's sold.
