It seems to me like America is obsessed with food. I think we just get over-analytical with everything, including food. Food has now become quite a science and everybody seems to have some sort of less than normal relationship with food.

Many are in a constant diet, some are self-described food addicts, a few are "picky-eaters", and others just feel they should be making "better choices", thanks to everyone and their grandmother all having an opinion on what we should be eating. Not to mention people with much more serious eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia or compulsive eating disorders.

It doesn't have to be scientific. Just answer the poll according to how you feel. If you feel you're kinda struggling with food just by having a sweet tooth, by all means say "yes" to the poll. Poll is anonymous.

I have food issues. Not an eating disorder (or maybe it is) but I tend to have to eat the same foods everyday for periods of months or even years. I'm talking about the exact same meals for weeks or months.

I suppose I can say yes. My diet is motivated by bodybuilding, so I try to eat a certain way. That said, I'm not terribly strict about it. Lots of protein, healthy carbs...but this time of year I also have a tendency to over-indulge on Cadbury Eggs.

So non Americans are excluded from the poll or - ?

My only beef with food is that occasionally it says something offensive.

Of course not! Vote wherever you are. It's just that living in America, I get this sense that people around me care way too much about food. Sorry about being America-centric.

If by "food issues" you mean are there things that I can't eat due to health issues, then yes, I do.

I'm a lacto-pesco-vegetarian who also will not eat cephalopods, and am considering phasing out vertebrate meat entirely. Additionally, I would like to lose about five pounds, or alternatively replace it with muscle. So, yes, I guess?

No, I think he means psychological/emotional issues with food, not things you can't/won't eat for health issues.

Yes that's right. It's more like an emotional tug of war of war with food itself. I wouldn't say people who struggle because of health reasons or financial reasons have food issues in that the issue here arises from reasons other than their relationship with food. Take a kid for example, who can't have a cookie because his mum says no. No food issues here.

I think Good Housekeeping magazine ran a food issue last month.

I don’t see that as a food issue per se, more like an obsessive-compusive issue.

How do you feel about eating arthropods? Lobsters and crabs are mighty tasty, you know.

Same goes for me — it’s not so much that I want to lose weight, more like redistribute it.

I have to watch my sugar intake because of my diabetes, but it’s not a big problem because I’ve never been that keen on sweets anyway. Other than that, I eat pretty much anything that tastes good.

And not to derail the thread, but when did everyone start having “issues” anyway? I remember when people had problems, difficulties, conflicts, obstacles. When did all these become “issues”?

I have to watch sodium for high blood pressure, fat for high cholesterol, sugar for diabetes, calories for weight, can't have grapefruit because of the Lipitor, and avoid pork and shellfish because I'm Jewish.

Arthropods are just bugs. Crustaceans are delicious bugs, but they're just bugs. More machine than man, so to speak, unlike cows, for example.

The only issue (:p) with arthropods I may wind up with is catching methods may wind up killing fish. But for right now, I have not decided that fish should be protected, so it's cool.

I don't actually like lobsters, and dislike the cooking methods, although it's difficult to say whether that's really a problem or not.

Cephalopods are a special case in the invertebrate world because of octopi and cuttlefish, which are smart little monsters. Squid is tasty, but I err on the side of caution there.

No. I eat whatever I want. If I want to lose weight I eat less of it. If I want to be healthier I eat more good stuff, less bad stuff. I give it as little thought as possible.

Well, I can be a pretty picky eater, but I wouldn't say that's a problem. I do the grocery shopping and cooking so obviously I just make the things I like. And there's usually at least one dish I'm fine with at a restaurant. It only ever becomes a problem when others make it so - if I mention my pickiness at all some people will bend over backwards to try and accomodate me, and I'm not sure why, I certainly don't ask them to. I tell them, we can go wherever or cook whatever you want, my pickiness is my problem! But they continue to ask for specific details of what I will eat and try to find a place or dish that perfectly reflects that. It actually has started to annoy me even though I know they are trying to be nice. I don't want to be a burden on anyone just because I don't like certain foods.

Jeez, your friends are nice. Mine don't give a crap. Milk it for what it's worth. :p

I do have habits that I have no intention of breaking, yes. For example, I vacation in New York City a lot, and whenever I'm in the city, I eat at the same deli for lunch every single day.

Apart from that, no, I don't really have any issues involving food. Although since I'm about to go to Chicago for a week, I'd better not order any hot dogs with ketchup (which I do love  ).

I'm allergic to onions and peppers. I'm talking instant nausea that lasts for over a day if I have the slightest big of one in my mouth. I also don't like lettuce and tomatoes.. pretty much anything you can stack on a hamburger.

Come to think of it, I do have one “issue” with food: I’ve never been able to eat raw carrots or raw celery. There’s something about the fibrous texture of those vegetables. I chew and chew, but the stuff just doesn’t want to go down.

Cooked carrots and celery I have no problem with.

I have no problem with eating calamari. Hell, a squid would eat me if it had the chance.

Ketchup on hot dogs? Sacrilege and heresy!
