Do you have a favorite baseball team?

Who is your favorite team?

Minnesota Twins.

Did they get anybody good in the off-season?
Did you lose anyone you want to keep?

No. The only move they made was trading Carlos Gomez for JJ Hardy (Milwaukee). Not sure if that helped either team.

They do get to move into their new stadium, though.

How do you feel about the year coming up?

Fairly optimistic. The Twins have a way of making the most out of a small payroll and it looks like they're willing to shell out more now.

Are you going to any games? Taking anyone with you?

A few of us are going to Kansas City in April. We often go down there to get in some early golf and see the Twins play. Now that they're out of the Metrodome, I plan on seeing a few more Twins games here as well. And my town's high school will be playing at one of the games and the town is getting a busload together for that.

How many games do you go to each year?

I usually only get to three or four games a year, but with the new outdoor stadium, I'm hoping to see more.

Do you follow Spring Training?

A little- gotta do some scouting for fantasy baseball.

How many games do you watch on a weekly basis?

Four or five, but no always the whole game.

Do you like minor league ball?

I don't follow it closely, but I kind of keep track of the St. Paul Saints and I've gone to a few games.

Will you have a jones so bad you will actually watch the Caribbean World Series?

No, but if I'm bored I might watch a bit.

Have you ever played baseball in little league, high school, college, or city leagues?

As a gal, never got the opportunity, but I did play softball for many years and I still sub on a coed team once in a while.

What do you think of softball?

Love it. As I said above, I played for many years.

Do you yell from the stands? If so, what's your favorite thing to yell?

Yep. Sometimes more than I should. I once got Wade Boggs to flip me off.

And finally, if you are a baseball fan, are you also a niner? ;)

Well, I don't label myself as such, but yeah.

I once got Wade Boggs to flip me off.

:guffaw: Who was he playing for at the time?

Boston. At the time there were reports about him getting some girl knocked up and we sarted chanting a stupid little ditty about it ("Wade, Wade, we think you're cute/But we're still going to file a paternity suit"). Pretty soon we had the whole section (which was right behind their bench) chanting it. He wasn't too happy.

I love Baseball, despite all the Steriod stuff and the fact that the season is too long. Looking forward to Spring Training and the regular season. Pitchers and Catchers report a month from today. :techman:

Who is your favorite team?
The San Francisco Giants

Did they get anybody good in the off-season?
I like the DeRosa and Huff signings but we still need much better hitting.

Did you lose anyone you want to keep?
I wish Lewis was off the team. God he sucked in the outfield.

How do you feel about the year coming up?
I love the pitching, but the hitting is still the same only different year. I say second place, even though the west is so wide open that there is a bit of hope there.

Are you going to any games? Taking anyone with you?
I hope to go to quite a few. Love AT&T Park, best Ballpark in baseball.

How many games do you go to each year?
I try to go to a few.

Do you follow Spring Training?
Absolutely. Love listening to Miller and Kruk and Kuipe on the radio.

How many games do you watch on a weekly basis?
I try to see a lot, or at least when they're on, but mostly my team.

Do you watch MLB channel?
It officially kicked ESPN out of regular viewing. I love the MLB Network, and MLB Tonight

Do you like minor league ball?
Don't really follow it that much.

Will you have a jones so bad you will actually watch the Caribbean World Series?
Not really.

Have you ever played baseball in little league, high school, college, or city leagues?
No

What do you think of softball?
Lynch is hot.

Do you yell from the stands? If so, what's your favorite thing to yell?

Not really. I just love spending an afternoon at the yard.

And finally, if you are a baseball fan, are you also a niner?
Of course. :techman:

Nice questionnaire.

Here are my own answers:

Who is your favorite team?
I converted to Mariners after living in the Northwest for ten years. I used to be a Mets fan when I live in upstate New York, but I couldn't get many of their games anymore, and I always prefer the home team.

Did they get anybody good in the off-season?
Cliff Lee. Now we have two aces. Chone Figgins, base stealer extraordinaire... and Milton Bradley (a gamble, I guess).

Did you lose anyone you want to keep?
I liked Beltran, but I'm OK with his move.

How do you feel about the year coming up?
I'm optimistic. Here in the west we have to shoot for winning our division, and we might.

Are you going to any games? Taking anyone with you?
My friend from New York is visitting in July and we want to get up to Seattle to see a Yankees game. Other than that, about 4 other Seattle games and about 20 triple A games in Portland.

How many games do you go to each year?
Last couple of years it has been about 3 dozen, mostly Triple A.

Do you follow Spring Training?
Yes, and last year I even tried to blog it. The information is not easy to find!

How many games do you watch on a weekly basis?
One a day, at least.

Do you watch MLB channel?
Love it!

Do you like minor league ball?
I grew up in Rochester, New York and when I was about 5, Boog Powell played in an exhibition game between the Orioles and the Red Wings. I always knew that the minors was where the greats got their start. I got to see people like Curt Schilling and others like the Ripkin boys in their formative years. Now I live in Portland, OR and they also have a deep baseball tradition, though the people don't seem to know about it. Why, it was just a few years ago that I was screaming for the young Jason Bay as he belted some long balls here. Those were good games!

Will you have a jones so bad you will actually watch the Caribbean World Series?
Yes, if they have it in MLB Channel again this year.

Have you ever played baseball in little league, high school, college, or city leagues?
Little League.

What do you think of softball?
It's good for company-sponsored fun. My wife doesn't like it, though, and she's a baseball diehard. That's why I ask.

Do you yell from the stands? If so, what's your favorite thing to yell?
"C'mon blue!!!" usually because they're freakin' blind!

And finally, if you are a baseball fan, are you also a niner?
I love the fact that Sisko is a baseball nut. I love the dismay in his voice when he's talking about Eddington and he says, "I even took him to see a baseball game." I want a niner hat.

If I get out to visit my in-laws this summer, I will try to take in a M's game.

I like the New York Mets and the San Francisco Giants.:)

I followed the sport on TV over here for years on Channel 5, unfortunatly they dropped MLB this season, and I can't afford ESPN, so I'm stuck following results online or on teletext.:klingon:

Since the OP asks "do I" I feel it seems like a survey.

Thus my answer: NO

Don't enjoy baseball except on Thirsty Thursday where at our local AAA Nashville Sounds you get $1 drafts till 5th inning.

Back to the NFL thread I go.

Cincinnati Reds fan for years, luckily I was around during the Big Red Machine, now I think they are essentially the Little Red Micro-Machines.

Figure its going to be another long year.

Out of curiousity, how did you end up becoming a baseball fan over there? It doesn't seem like a popular sport there.

I'm trying to picture a similar scene to what I've seen in NYC or Boston, where you'll have a bunch of English or Irish or whatever ethnicity that bar caters too lined up on the weekend to catch some European soccer match, except it'd be a bunch of Europeans wearing baseball jerseys watching and American game.

I live in the northeastern US which is probably the most baseball crazy area of the country, one of the few places where it's more popular than football.

The one thing I saw when I was in England that I could tooootally get into was rugby. I had a pint or two with some locals who tried to explain the rules to me.

The only thing that I know about baseball in Italy is that my hometown has an amateurs' team called Progresso and a small baseball field just outside the city. But, I don't think I've never saw anyone actually playing. :D

As I have to be up for work early, I would catch the last few innings of a baseball match shown live on Channel 5 over here, very quickly I was hooked, not only with the game, but the excellent studio banter on 5. Soon I would record whole games and watch them off tape when I got home.:)

While not huge in the UK, there is a growing and dedicated hardcore group who follow American sport, with plenty of students who should be in bed, pulling all nighters while watching a game!;)
While the NFL is by far the most popular of your sports over here, with the Super Bowl aired live on BBC TV. The MLB, NBA, NHL, IRL, and NASCAR all have followers this side of the pond.

Baseball not my sport but.
Seattle as they are close by..
Toronto as they are Canadian based.
(and that would be the only Toronto team I'd support)

It's always nice to find another Mets fan to feel miserable with.

The Superbowl is this Sunday. I'm trying to get myself psyched up, but just can't quite. I despise the Colts, and don't care one way or another about the Saints.

Plus the Olympics start next week, so I've already got my sights on bigger things.

My wife is nutso about football though, so I'm sure I'll see every second of pregame to the "I'm going to Disney World" spot.

All I know is, Italy has a National team, they played in the baseball World Classic last year, and hosted Cuba this year, nearly beating them. The National team is made up from the All-Stars of the IBL (baseball Italia). Here are last year's standings:

2009 IBL Standings
Team Wins Losses (games behind)
Bologna 30 12 ( - )
Rimini 30 12 ( 1.0 )
San Marino 26 16 ( 5.0 )
Parma 24 18 ( 6.0 )
Nettuno 23 19 ( 9.0 )
Grosseto 17 25 ( 13.0 )
Godo 10 32 ( 21.0 )
Reggio Emilia 8 34 ( 21.0 )
