Do you ever watch a tv show with the audio off or the tint real dark or just listen to the dialogue?

The new audio show disks involving contributions by many of the women who have impacted "Dr Who" sort of made me think of this question and some of the ways I have watched tv before. I remember when I was young me and my sister used to mute a show sometimes and basically voice the characters and basically just make jokes.

I have sometimes also just listened to the characters talk. Also after "Generations" came out I remember trying more than a few times to replicate the cool look of that movie with "TNG" episodes so I would turn the tint down to make it look kind of dark on the ship much like the movie. Granted it all falls apart soon as you have a scene not on the actually ship but was neat. I have even tried to watch stuff before in black and white as if it was a old black and white movie.

Not lately, but when I was young (and we didn't own a VCR) I would audio tape my fave movies. There are a handful of movies I listened to so much that the dialogue is seared into my brain. :)

I did the same thing with all the TOS episodes and first three movies on an old cassette recorder. Still have all the cassettes in a box somewhere.

I occasionally mute a movie or TV episode when I want to concentrate on the acting, the lighting, or the camera work.
It's interesting how some actors only dominate a scene with their voice while others act mostly by body language. Most actors combine both. Only very few manage to also act with their eyes (Michael Clarke Duncan in The Green Mile, Brent Spiner as Data). For some reason, when people act (both on screen and in everyday life) often the eyes betray the rest of the body. There are only very very few actors who immerse themselves into a character so thoroughly that they remember to also act with their eyes.
I particularly enjoy this in Peter Wingfield. I think that's the secret why in spite of the the most absurd scripts and horrible directing he can still create a perfectly credible character. It often rescues an otherwise awful movie and elevates a mediacre one. A pity he gave up acting.

I’ve listened to some Dads Army episodes back in the day in the car.
Tv with the audio off reminds me of that improv thing Issacs, Crosby, Picardo and Philips did to a TOS episode on the Cruise. I wish I recorded that. Would have made a interesting audio track.

It's not in my abilities. But there were times when there was a bug on Netflix where all I saw was the subtitles against a black background. It was kinda weird. Also, I once went to the movies where I had those googles for subtitles. I went to the urinals, with the subtitles still going...

I sometimes like to listen to confort telly, familiar episodes of favourite shows like Star Trek, Dr Who or Death in Paradise etc, with my eyes shut. Usually when I’m tired or my eyes hurt but don’t want to give up on the day and go to bed.

I'm kind of like that also. I like to watch or listen to something pleseant or familiar before bed. Also tend to go to a Weird Al music spoof as well. In fact I have tried this before and do it sometimes will listen to something like this when I try to go to sleep.

What video were you trying to post, @Jayson1? Can't view it on my end. It says it's unavailable.

It's 8 hours of background noise of the Enterprise-D bridge. I did make a mistake when I first linked. I am always getting the o's mixed up with my 0's but I fixed it. Are you still having problems watching it?

Nope. I can view it fine now.

It's pretty nifty. You also have other Trek background stuff. It's the Trek version of those white noise makers I think they are called. Usually it's stuff like rain or wind and nice calming stuff like that in nature.

I used to do this to help me sleep when I was in university.

However, I don't believe my wife would appreciate something like this these days

Would she be okay with headphones? I have tried sleeping with headphones only back then it was just a walkman and that always ended up not working so well. The headphones either break or they get tangled up and stuff like that.

I have to wear a CPAP machine, so headphones are out, and I despise earbuds.

It's all good though

I often have the TV on in the background when doing something else, such as browsing the web. So I guess you could say I listen to the audio only of a TV show/film from time to time.
