Do we want to know the Doctor's secret?

I didn't read the link, but as a new viewer, I would love to know why is he so special. Everyone wants to know his name, I just want to know why he's the "Doctor" when you never see him actually be a Doctor other than a few minor times.
I am a Doctor and you never see me do medical things either - what's your point?
I'm guessing that the answer to "The Question" will reveal a number of big secrets.
The first secret is that his name, per se, is not the answer to the question, nor what the question is really asking for in the first place. The question is asking "who" the Doctor is on a much deeper level than that of a mere name. A mere moniker is pretty meaningless devoid of a meaningful context, isn't it?
The second secret, is that while the Doctor will answer the question truthfully, as the prophecy states, his answer will likely result in one of those situations where this new info merely presents us with even more questions than we started with. The truthful answer won't solve any great riddle about the Doctor, but merely establish that an even greater riddle exists, and one which he has been totally unaware of until forced to answer the question of "who?"
And the quest to discover the nature of this new riddle, and it's mysterious answer, will simply provide an added element to the Doctor's adventures over the next 50 years or so of storytelling. (I'm guessing that his truthful answer to "Doctor Who?" will be, "I don't know". And having to finally face the fact that he doesn't really know "who" the hell he is, or what really motivates him, sparks an open-ended quest to discover the secrets of his own past/place in the universe/etc.)

Yes, I think it relates to the kind of person he is. The Doctor has at times answered the question "Doctor Who?" by saying that he is the last time lord with all the rights and authority to right wrongs, even destroy entire armies. It would make sense that groups like the Silence would be afraid if the Doctor answered the question that way which is why they tried to kill him in the first place. They don't want him to answer the question because it would mean their demise.
My point is what kind of Doctor is he. Professors in college are sometimes called Doctors, and then you have specific types of Doctors. Just curious, what kind of Doctor are you?
He's claimed to be a doctor of "practically everything" (Spearhead From Space, Utopia), and does hold the Time Lord equivalent of a doctorate (The Armageddon Factor), and an Earthly one, having studied under Joseph Lister (The Moonbase). It's also been claimed that he chose his title to reflect his desire to "make people better" (The Sound of Drums).
Wasn't River pointing out in that scene that the Doctor had become none of those things?
No, she was warning that he was becoming something else- a warrior.
I'd prefer RTD come back. At least his stories were entertaining.
I'm a big fan of RTD - he did a great job in actually bringing the show back, making it popular and writing nice little character pieces. Unfortunately, he wasn't a great scifi writer though and way too many episodes under his stewardship were just plain dumb. Especially the ones he wrote.
Steven Moffat's a superb writer and his seasons have been much higher quality and more involved imho. The stellar cast with Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill and Jenna Louise Coleman has certainly helped. I wasn't fond of Billie Piper, Kylie Minogue and (ugh) Katherine Tate...
They're both entertaining, just in different ways. Each one has their own strengths and weaknesses.

PhD (Information management).
Professors in college ARE doctors. They have doctorates in their field of study (generally a PhD). When in a teaching position a PhD is called a "Professor." Those without a doctorate who are in a teaching position are "Instructors."
OT: Which I always found strange. You can very clearly hear him shout "Modenkind" (moonchild) in the German version, but it´s drowned in all the thunder in the english version)
My theory is...maybe for some reason his name has some kind of "magic" to it...and if it´s ever spoken outloud it unravels the very fabric of the multiverse(ses).
