It's Bob, he isn't proud of it.
I didn't read the link, but as a new viewer, I would love to know why is he so special. Everyone wants to know his name, I just want to know why he's the "Doctor" when you never see him actually be a Doctor other than a few minor times.

i wish moffat would hurry up and leave the show, ugh.
I very much doubt we'll learn his name. The question "Doctor who?" is likely more about the type of person he is or something he did in the past, something to do with the very nature of his character. At this point, giving him a name would just be odd.

I am a Doctor and you never see me do medical things either - what's your point?
My point is what kind of Doctor is he. Professors in college are sometimes called Doctors, and then you have specific types of Doctors.

He's claimed to be a doctor of "practically everything" (Spearhead From Space, Utopia), and does hold the Time Lord equivalent of a doctorate (The Armageddon Factor), and an Earthly one, having studied under Joseph Lister (The Moonbase). It's also been claimed that he chose his title to reflect his desire to "make people better" (The Sound of Drums).
It's the other way around. "'Doctor': the word for "healer" and "wise man", throughout the universe. We get that word from you, y'know." - River Song

Wasn't River pointing out in that scene that the Doctor had become none of those things?

I sincerely hope not. It's a damned site better than it was under RTD...

I'd prefer RTD come back. At least his stories were entertaining.

If they do give his name, I hope it is done Neverending Story style- unintelligible to the audience* and giving us something new to debate for the next 50 years.
*I know it was Moonchild in the book. But that's neither here nor there.
