Do we know why Pike and co are in the different uniforms?

I had been hoping that his eye condition and sensitivity to light had been an injury and medical condition resulting from a mission aboard the Buran, possibly even the mission where the ship was lost. Little did I know they'd take an initially intriguing and "where are they taking this" plot point that held potential and turn it into arguably the dumbest and most nonsensical thing we've ever learned about the Mirror Universe...and this is a universe where officers wear gold lame sashes and even the ship's chefs probably assassinate one another.

Not sure I see the problem.

The Enterprise-D crew went through how many uniform changes during its seven years on the air and up to "First Contact"? In fact, I remember that when "DS9" first premiered, Sisko and his Federation crew seemed to be wearing uniforms different from Picard.

This was the Enterprise-D crew around Season 6 (1992-1993):

Why were the two crews wearing different uniforms during the same year?

Well both uniforms were in play on DS9
Sisko, Bashir and Dax arrive wearing the TNG uniforms.

Again, they were supposed to be different classes of uniform. The TNG ones were more formal (though less so than full dress uniforms) and the DS9 ones were utilitarian worksuits. It was customary to wear them on the station because it was a dirtier, more rugged environment than a starship.

For another example, the crew of the Prometheus in "Second Sight" (DS9) were wearing the TNG-style ones as well:

Also, Sisko changed back into his when he returned to Earth in "Homefront" (DS9):

Of course, we later saw that some starships, like Voyager, also favored the jumpsuits.

Not sure I see the problem.
Me neither. Tough crowd.

Which was the point I was trying to make.

How so? Lt Commander= two stripes or three dots.

Lieutenant Commander would be two full and one black pip (Discovery/TNG), Captain is two full stripes and one broken (TOS). They are the same breakdown, just one uses stripes, the other pips.

Beyond that, it just seemed silly to bring the TNG rank style into a show that is supposed to lead into TOS. The actual Discovery arrowheads just look so much better without the pips.

The TOS Uniforms didn't have a bunch of Delta sewn into them.
A very minor change. Still looked pretty good. You would think with their obsession with deltas they would do that anyway. :)

I think people can parse stripes vs pips the same they parse bars and stripes in the modern Navy.
