I've tried to start a few music threads over the years, but they never really mounted to much. Granted, a couple of those threads were on Godspeed You! Black Emperor and tragically not very many people are familiar with them.
I listen to plenty of music, but I can't say I'm really qualified to seriously discuss it.
I thrive on music. Seriously, I go nuts if I don't listen to some music everyday.
Wow, it's so rare to find someone who has even heard of them (over the years I've only met about half a dozen including the person who introduced me to them). If you do give them another try, check out f#a#(infinity). Simply amazing.GYBE is one of those bands that should be right up my alley, given a lot of the other stuff I like (I was all about the postrock in the mid- to late '90s), but I've never really connected with their stuff as much as I expected. Could just need to give them another chance.I've tried to start a few music threads over the years, but they never really mounted to much. Granted, a couple of those threads were on Godspeed You! I seem to be the only person in the United States that likes Porcupine Tree. I've only met two other people here who've heard of them. My enthusiasm for their work is a somewhat solitary affair.

That can be said about any poster on any subject here!![]()

Speaking of them, did you ever listen to any of the sister bands, particularly A Silver Mt. Zion (just one of the many variations of their name)?
There's a lot of up and down (in the motion of the music) to their work sometimes with a payoff, sometimes not. f#a#(infinity) tends to have more payoffs than the other albums which is probably why it's my favorite. Also, you listened to two tracks from one album and one track from another and I have to say their music is best enjoyed as albums as a whole, much like Pink Floyd (and is it surprising that they are two of my favorite bands?). Like I suggested to Steve, check out f#a#(infinity) when you get the chance.Based on your post I gave them a bit of a listen. I heard Sleep, Rockets Fall, and Storm. Is this pretty much what they sound like?I thrive on music. Seriously, I go nuts if I don't listen to some music everyday.

I don't mind the slow build, but where's the payoff? I like the ambient quality of it, but it's more like listening to a soundtrack of a movie I'm not watching. Of those three, I liked Storm the best.
A Silver Mt. Zion is lighter in mode than Godspeed and often times features some singing, which is scarce for Godspeed (despite the sharing of band members). Their albums blend a bit more together than Godspeed, but I would recommend checking out either Born into Trouble as the Sparks Fly Upward or This is Our Punk-Rock, Thee Rusted Satellites Gather + Sing (yes, both bands love their long, seemingly nonsensical titles).I think I've heard one of theirs. I know both bands have stuff on emusic, so if I can't find anything around the house, I'll download something (legally and inexpensively).Wow, it's so rare to find someone who has even heard of them (over the years I've only met about half a dozen including the person who introduced me to them). Correct, the latter is the only album of theirs that doesn't have spoken word. I can understand being put off by that content and I admit that I didn't like it at first, but I love the music itself that I grew to accept it as part of the mood setter.I remember why I wasn't as keen as expected on GYBE; it's the spoken word stuff on some albums. But I went ahead and downloaded f#a#(infinity) and Yanqui U.X.O. from emusic. I gather the latter doesn't have any voiceovers.

Sorry but I'm a real pain to point this out, but Franz Ferdinand are Scottish, not English.I listen to lots of foreign music, to the extent where I've forgotten some of them; There's two German bands I'm pretty sure (Iron Savior and Silent Force), an English band (Franz Ferdinand), I think that Nightwish and Within Temptation might be based in Sweden, and Eiffel 65 are from Italy.
