I'm 26 (although I was 25 when I first saw the movie ), and I quite enjoyed it. I liked it enough to go see it a couple more times, and I think I actually came to appreciate it more upon those subsequent viewings. The first time, I saw it with my dad, an old-school Trek fan of 62, and he enjoyed enough to see it again as well. In fact, just yesterday at a Canada Day celebration, when the conversation turned to movies, he and I were both singing the film's praises to some people who haven't seen it.

So in my family, it seems to be getting some cross-generational love. Now if I could just get my mother and sister to go see it... easier said than done. My mom -- maybe, when it comes out on DVD. My sister, however, will be a tougher one to convince. She hasn't really appreciated any Trek since First Contact, and in general, she seems to have somewhat of an anti-action/sci-fi bias (which I have called her out on; she simply replies by telling me I have an aversion to rom-coms -- she may be right ). So if I somehow get her to watch it --and through some twist of fate, she actually ends up liking it-- we'll know for sure that this film has appeal across the board!

I'm 28 and I thought it was a good movie. I only wish it was either a full reboot or a direct prequel. Occupying some nebulous territory in the middle hurt the movie and prevented me from loving it.

I can imagine that we'll get a few more nice movies but in terms of novels, video games etc I have no interest in this Trek outside of the movie(s).

I'm 32 and just didn't care for the whole Alternate Reality angle. It felt like a slap in the face for liking a timeline which remained pretty consistent all told. I've read all the reasons why it apparently had to be done that way and just don't agree. The stumbling blocks for a traditional prequel seem to boil down to knowing this crew will survive to old age. Not sure I can ever buy that in a fantasy world where any number of bizarre phenomena can happen to misdirect the viewer... time travel, replacements for dead characters hopping over from parallel universes or any number of retcons that cast new light on what fans think they know.

I'd have been happy with a traditional movie prequel, risking the split Phantom Menace caused among the Star Wars old guard. Set design changes don't phase me and the new bridge is a beautiful and worthy precursor, or is it that replacement for the original. Produce a piece of art and it will always reflect the age in which it was made. It's not the fault of Star Trek, that it started decades before CGI. Besides, so much of TOS styling seems to have survived being given a mega bucks facelift. I'd have been less happy with a reboot, but would've respected that approach and backed off from becoming involved. Reboots tend to be radically different from the original and redo on their own terms. Star Trek 2009 is so similar in many ways, I have to wonder what the point was. It just forced too much TOS backstory into one film, using Nero and his creation of a splinter universe to explain away revisions, shutting down any reasonable criticism. The type of debate fans like to engage in, now reduced to telling older fans they're completely wrong and now know absolutely nothing.

I'm 39, a Trekkie since I was knee-high, didn't like the new film. I don't think my age has a thing to do with it. I didn't want a re-boot, I didn't want another ill-conceived time travel plot, I was bored to tears by Nero, and I was embarassed by all the plot-holes.

Other than that, how did I like the play, Mrs. Lincoln? Umm, some of the FX were purty........ <shrug>
