Do NASCAR and other gas wasting events need to go?

Unical was NASCAR's fuel supplier from 1948-2003 the price range was perfect, it was FREE, SUNOCO the current supplier has a 10-year agreement (it expires in 2014) to do the same.
It's Unocal (formerly Union Oil Company of California), not Unical! Unical sounds like a diet drink.

You always get the finest
The very best, the finest
At the sign of the 76
Feel free to stop in
For water or air
To powder your nose
Or comb your hair
The service is the finest
The friendliest, the finest
At the sign of the 76
It's orange and blue
So look for that Union
Sign of the finest,
The sign of the 76!

Aaah, nostalgia . . .

:o dam fat fingers

I was gonna say you're not one of those fucking people who believe an American made muscle car is worse for the environment then a damned Prius, but I saw that that had been mostly handled already.

At least NASCAR is slowly moving towards efficiency. The introduction of fuel injection next year is a step in the right direction. I can see methanol or something like it within 10. (works great in Indycars!)
One thing I don't get, though. I understand why police need a full size car with a big motor. But WHY do local and national government use the same full size car for personal transportation purposes? I mean, a postal inspector or bureaucrat can make do just fine with a nice, efficient compact. Why does EVERYONE need a Crown Vic with a V8?

I understand that people that are "important" and have higher post could use it in case they got into a dangerous situation and needed to escape. The bureaucrats do it because they can and have shitty taste if they get a Crown Vic still. Way cooler cars out there.

I know I'd get a Camaro as a work car if I could  Actually around here almost every company these days have "Eco-cars". Most are shit of course, but they meet the governments set standards for what is considered to be an environmentally friendly car.

Because the Crown Vics are cheap when bought in bulk by government agencies. But Ford is discontinuing the model and agencies will have to pick a new one. They are putting out a specialized police vehicle but no word yet if there will be a non-law enforcement version.

A lot of law enforcement agencies these days are using the police-spec Dodge Charger.

I didn't like it at first, but it kind of grows on you. Looks pretty badass.

Probably not, but I still want to see a Prius 200.

It would probably be far more entertaining than nascar

Looks like NASCAR is already thinking about this issue..

From Fannation.com:

NASCAR chief marketing officer Steve Phelps said the sanctioning body is in the process of taking the next step toward going green. "We're looking at the technologies as well as it relates to the product on the track," Phelps said. According to Phelps, that could mean an alternative fuel sometime in the near future.
