Why do you believe that to be a way forward for the franchise?

Who said anything about it being the way forward for the franchise?

I'd just love to watch all my favourite Trek characters go off on an adventure together. I mean who wouldn't wanna see Seven of Nine try seduce data..

But this isn’t a dream thread: it’s about actually doing something, which implies responsibility towards the franchise.

I have absolutely no desire to see that in any form.

This is steering more in to the realm of fan fiction than an actual show idea.

I personally think that Kelvin Trek would do well to be based out of Starbase Yorktown and do a smaller starship out to explore. Something out on the fringes of known space, where they can find very different adventures.

Again, you’re looking at something derivative created long after the heyday. Why follow in those particular footsteps? These are all tie-in ideas, and it’s hard enough to get KT tie-ins.

I thought it would take something uniquely Kelvin "Starbase Yorktown" and take it in a different direction, while still utilizing the Star Trek exploration ethos.

But what do you gain from playing in the Abramsverse as opposed to creating another ‘verse?
Well, anything created in the Abramsverse will be derivative in some way.

I don't know if you gain anything aside from some familiarity with Abrams Trek as a buy in. I just think that there is plenty of diversity of tech and aliens that could be explored in such a show.

Fair enough. For the good of the franchise Kelvin Trek should only continue in movie form or not at all. Any TV series just further muddies the waters.

If there isn't going to be a Kelvin time line Tarantino Trek then Kelvin Trek should just be put to bed.

Nope. The Kelvin timeline only worked because it told us how the characters we knew intimately might turn out if history had been different. Asking for a Kelvinverse series without the TOS crew would be like asking for "Yesterday's Enterprise" to be about how the crew of the USS Buena Ventura adjusted to the timeline shift.

Surely the point would be to do a Star Trek series not beholden to the TOS continuity? That sounds worthwhile to me.

If Discovery had been set in the Kelvin timeline then many fans would've been happier as it wouldn't contradict the Prime Timeline. I mean DSC looks like Kelvin Trek, with lens flares, massive and impressive sets, gigantic starships and it feels like Kelvin Trek, with it's impressive action sequences and fast paced story telling. It in no way feels like a precursor to TOS or even TNG.

IMHO, the first two Kelvin movies were great, epic spectacles that reinvigorated a franchise with a visionary director who would go on to work his magic once more to revive Star Wars. It's the rather dull and Insurrection like Star Trek Beyond that sunk the Kelvin movies. I still cannot fathom how it cost so much to make. Bring back JJ to save the movie franchise! It may be an unpopular opinion, but the man knows how to make a smash hit.

You are certainly welcome to your OPINION of the matter. I however will never waste my time on the Kelvin universe, you also have to remember that messing with copying a plot has been known to kill franchises...look at Alien look at Star Wars (who is losing tons of fans)

I sincerely hope that's the only time I'll ever see that particular phrase !

Probably not an issue after SW Ep10 if my suspicions are correct...

I both like and hate this.

Abrams is one of the most overrated names of the era and while his Trek and Wars films arent entirely without merit theyre just so incredibly generic and dumb. The Last Jedi was a real breath of fresh air and truly solidified my appreciation of Rey and Kylo. I fear Ill probably never get to see a really good ending for them.

The Last Jedi was atrocious, and it finished Star Wars for me. 1-6, happy ending, FIN.

JJ's highlight, IMO, was Fringe.
