Dissenters! -- Redefine your expectations. Watch it again.

I think I went into this movie with relatively low expectations. The movie wasn't made for me, and I not the target audience. I enjoyed "Star Trek: Warpath (novel)" more than I enjoyed the new movie, but that's not to say the new movie wasn't really, really fun! You just have to consume it right now for what it is-- a reintroduction (and for the time being, Star Trek-Lite).
Did I care about Pike's torture scene when I've seen Picard slowly broken by the Cardassians-- an Orwellian homage that made bold statement about torture?

Did I care about Sulu's Jedi sword-fighting scene all that much when I've seen Worf challenge Gowron to death to rid the Klingon Empire of a corrupt chancellor?

Was I really all that impressed by a one-sided "Nero" when we've seen the likes of Khan, Sybok, Section 31, The Dominion, The Borg, the Gul Dukat?

Did I find Kirk's rebellious smugness all that unique when we've seen similar (yet more developed) attitudes from the original Kirk, Tom Paris, Will Riker, Mackenzie Calhoun?
It's all about expectations! The Star Trek universe is a fine cognac that's we've been aging and tasting will all kinds of modern literature-- television, films, novels, comics. We'd debated and discussed these issues since we were children. When you do what Abrams has done and start from scratch, how could you expect anything but Kool-Aid at this point? Drink it and like it! It's sweet, it's tasty, it's sugary and delicious-- but it's certainly not a fine glass of wine-- yet!

I watched it twice and disliked it after the second viewing. Sorry, I'm not going to force myself to like something that's just not good.

I don't try to avoid high expectations unless there's good reason not to hold them - just specific expectations.

If someone doesn't like or is dissatisfied by a movie, there's not a reason in the world for them to pay to see it again. It's not medicine, and it's not a relationship. ;)
