Disney releases their next fairy tale live action remake. The movie will be directed by Kenneth Branagh.

The film stars Lily James as Ella, with Cate Blanchett as Lady Tremaine (The Wicked Stepmother), Richard Madden as Kit, Sophie McShera as Drisella, Holliday Grainger as Anastasia and Helena Bonham Carter as The Fairy Godmother.

Looks like it could be good.

Yeah, that does look good. I wonder if this is the beginning of typecasting for Richard Madden.

As what, a Royal? Prince Charming and Robb Stark seem pretty far apart.

It's Alfie Allen who should be worried seeing how similar his John Wick character was to Theon.

Yeah, I just meant as a medieval prince/royal.

So, I wonder if this is a big hit if we'll suddenly start seeing a lot more of Cinderella/Ashley on Once Upon A Time.

Is the whole thing with the step mother and the king conspiring to keep Cinderella and the prince apart a new thing? I don't remember seeing that in other versions of the story.

I loved the movie! A+

Finally a more faithful fairy tale retelling from Disney! No silliness about Alice being Xena, or Maleficent being good all along. Lily James was Cinderella in real life. Everyone was well cast, standouts were Cate Blanchett as Lady Tremaine and Helena Bonham Carter as The Fairy Godmother. The Stepmother felt much more developed as a character than the animated movie with the extra scenes they gave her in this. This is the first time Prince Charming has a personality! YES! Prince Robb "Kit" Stark was a likable guy.

The movie looked GOOD. Nice sets and gorgeous costumes. The story remained the same with a few twists, which worked out. I love that they brought back Lucifer and the mice. It'll be hard to find any CGI mice as cute as them. This was easily my favorite of all of Disney's live action retellings so far.

The Frozen short was cute, I'll post my thoughts in the Frozen topic.

I am quite surprised at the reception of this film. 84% fresh on rt. I did not see that coming especially after the ratings snow white and the huntsman and maleficent got.

Maleficent had a lot of potential that just wasn't realized by a horrible script. Angelina Jolie was the right actress for the role too (IMO), and it's unfortunate that it didn't live up to its potential.

Two words, " Kenneth Branaugh". The guy is a helluva director. Although this is not a movie I will likely ever see, as soon as I heard he was directing I immediately thought, "it's going to be better than a lot of people think it will be".

Grade: A

My fiancé and I went and saw this over the weekend and I thought it was really cute and well made. The colors just seemed to jump off the screen. Not sure what type filter or other techniques they used to get the effect from the palace and ball scenes especially but it was candy for the eyes visually.

The actors all did a superb job, the backstory for setting up Ella as an orphan had plenty of gravitas to it with out being in your face(I suppose this was due to the target audience).
The sets were very articulate and I found myself a bit envious of that much attic space!
If the adult in me were to nitpick an area it would be that the mice and lizards didn't feel as organic to the scenes.

I never appreciate running commentary in any movie, idle chit chat is the worse. Given the film I was in and it's target audience I stay in check but the questions of the 5/6yr old girl behind us was a bit adorable.
"Did her mommy die?"
"Why are they being mean to her?"
"Where are her friends?"
"Her dress is so pretty momma!"
