Disney remaking THX-1138

Happy Days was introduced on an episode of Love, American Style in 1972.

I had forgotten about that, but it wasn't called Happy Days. It was originally called Love and the Television Set. I've never seen it, so I can't comment, except to say that, since it introduced Richie (Ron Howard) but not Shirley, the main point stands.

Yeah, the original aired episode had a different name, but was renamed Love and the Happy Days later.

I wasn't really debating your point, just adding an aspect to the timeline.

I'm sure I saw the LAS episode at some point, 20 or 30 years ago.

pro-tip: Remaking American Graffiti would have been more believable, given that it was actually popular.

Would it have the same impact and appeal today?

Oh, and I saw this in the theater. But I couldn't figure out why Richie Cunningham was dating Shirley Feeny.

You must have seen it on a re-release or in a dollar house. When it first played in theaters, neither Happy Days nor Laverne and Shirley had been on television.

Probably re-release. Or I'm getting all my early memories jumbled together.

Edit: IMDB says May 1978 re-release.

But, isn't that exactly how Laverne and Shirley were introduced? Fonzie and Richie had a double date with them?

In order of release/debut: AG (1973) < HD (1974) < L&S (1976). The characters of Laverne and Shirley appeared in the third season of Happy Days.

There's absolutely no way anyone could watch AG in the theater first run and wonder why Richie and Shirley were dating. That's what we're saying.
Yea, I saw your "Yep" reply, and my mnd thought it was you who had made the comment about Richie dating Shirley, and that you were acknowledging you had seen AG in relelease after HD and L&S had already started airing :alienblush:
