Disgruntled Janeway fans: try a carrot

While I would not touch most relaunch books, I'd gladly take a look at one set in the show's canon.

The very chunky "String Theory" trilogy. Read that?

No, though I note my library has all three. Worth it?
It's a very, very Voyager story set between seasons 4 and 5 that does a lot of work to tie up some dangling threads left in the show. It comes highly recommended from me, at least, with the caveat that there are quite a few people that find the third book to be a substantially worse one than the first two, so the trilogy as a whole is not without flaws. But on the whole, I'd say if you're interested in Voyager DQ stories, it'll certainly make you happy; at least the first and the second books stand up with any of the best that the numbered novels produced, in my opinion, and they're much longer (around 400 pages each), so there's lots there to enjoy.

I'd also recommend the story "Places Of Exile" in the Myriad Universes book Infinity's Prism; it's about the same length as the average numbered Voyager book, and gives an alternate timeline in which Voyager never negotiated with the Borg, Kes never left, and the crew was instead stranded in the middle of the region of space from the end of 3rd season. It follows the next couple years of their lives, and tells a fascinating alternate possibility for the show, one that I think is vastly superior to the story that was actually told.

You know I liked Castaways of Gilligan's Island a lot better in that they get of the island and Mr. Howle turns the island into a resort and gives the other castaways jobs there so they can still use the island in the movie just not be stuck on it.

Yes, but then you make a piece of crap called "Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island" and make sure the franchise is dead, dead, dead. (Not to mention Thurston "Sybok" Howell IV, who didn't exist in the episode where the Howells want to adopt Gilligan because they had no children of their own to whom to leave their millions.)

I highly recommend all three books in the trilogy. The third book is definitely polarizing. This means that some, like myself, love it, and others, some of whom have already posted, hate it. Since it's just a library loan, read it and decide for yourself.

Honestly, I wonder why this sort of thing does not happen, perhaps even in a simpler manner than you suggest. You get these ridiculous contrivances to deal with events in the show's "past", yet why couldn't books be simply be set at a certain point in the show's chronology.

I'd still love to see one or more books that explore the quashed "Endgame" timeline; the original, twenty-six odd years' journey home. I'd be particularly interested in anything that could shed further light on Admiral Janeway's and Captain Kim's motivations...

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

I'd CERTAINLY agree with this; I think in the right hands that, in a Myriad Universes kind of way, this would make one hell of a story.

Actually the first fan fiction I wrote was an attempt to do just that. Using every scene you saw and only adding an additional motivation for Admiral Janeway. The one theme that always runs through my mind is where were the "Time Police". They were aware of Captain Janeway in "Future's End", why not here unless she was meant to reset the time line.

Cucumbers, zucchini, rutebegas, bwahahahaha...

A female friend of mine used to have a saying,

"Cucumbers are better than men because... they stay hard for a week. And they don't get jealous that there are other cucumbers in the fridge."
