Oh this is exciting! So far, I like the space suits, will live with the uniforms, don't like the sets, and preferred a smoother version of the Discovery.

That said, I look at Star Trek a bit like I do a production of Hamlet. We are not watching the actual events of either, but rather the interpretation of those events viewed through the eyes of different teams. Compare Olivier's version with Brannagh's or even Mel Gibson's, and you'll see the same story told, more or less, even though the sets and costumes differ vastly. And then there's the Royal Shakespeare Company's version produced for the BBC a few years ago starring Patrick Stewart and David Tennant -- with costumes that seemed to span several eras and sets that were largely contemporary.

When you look at Star Trek from this perspective, it becomes much easier to dislike one aspect or another while liking the whole and accepting it all as integrated and organic. It's a simple thing now to look at these uniforms and not like them. Or to prefer one Enterprise over the other ... they aren't competing with each other. No one will ever see the real Enterprise from the fictional universe any more than one will see the official Prince Hamlet!

The uniforms are pieced oddly, and the zippers and metallic Spandex look downright cheap.

Robot or some kind of VR helmet? You can see skin in the neck area and it's wearing a uniform. That seems a bit...creepy.
Nice catch! I think you are right. I checked with the teaser trailer, where we also see someone wearing a helmet that's illuminated from inside. But it actually looks like a different helmet. Could be the helmet the Klingon from the end of the trailer is wearing, though.

How cool is it that everyone sees this trailer differently and is able to find something others are missing!

Hm, I really like the uniforms. The asymmetric collar is a little weird and, yeah, the silver/gold/bronze parts could look more high-grade (I think they wrinkle too much), but overall the design is a neat bridge/blend of the Enterprise jumpsuits, the subtle “Cage”-color scheme and the Kelvinverse uniforms with the little arrowhead pattern.

You know if that is a VR helmet on Discovery it's possible that this is the Klingon equivalent. Maybe it controls drones (like the Romulans did in ENT) :
