Discovery to get tie-ins!

Will the postponement of the Discover book effect any of your other books?

The novel's release is being postponed to coincide with the premiere, at least as closely as is possible. Which is good for S&S and for me, since it means we're no longer on such a super-crash schedule.

Also it will give the writers time to produce more screen-accurate novelisations (is it an adaptation or an original story?) and comics probably based on more completed episodes, so while it is frustrating the wait will be longer, the 'expanded universe' creatives may have an advantage. Even if it is an original tie-in story.

Sometimes these projects have to be rushed to coincide with the screen release.

I'm not surprised the novel will be postponed. But I also wonder how will this affect the release of the other Star Trek novels coming out later this year.

IIRC it was mentioned either earlier or elsewhere that it wasn't a novelisation of the pilot - it was an original story that ties into the first season.

This is correct.

Nope. Section 31: Control is already finished with production and is on track to go to the printers. Star Trek: Titan – Fortune of War is written, approved, and on its way to copyediting. Because I finished it way ahead of schedule, it can be published early if the publisher needs to adjust its schedule.

As soon as I finish the manuscript for my Discovery novel, I will return to work on Dark Arts, my original series for Tor. Book one, The Midnight Front, is in production now, for a February 2018 release. I plan to finish book two, The Iron Codex, by the fall, and book three, Shadow Commission, by this time next year, if all goes well.

It's awesome to hear that series is back on track for release soon. I'm super excited to read it. (And I'm pretty happy about S31, Titan, and Discovery novels too!)

David Mack has offered an update on the Discovery novel on his Facebook page. I don't know if there's a way to link directly to just that post, so you might have to scroll down a bit to get to the Discovery post.

Thanks. I thought about just copying and pasting the text, but I know some people don't like it when you do that, so I thought a link would be more polite.

Yep. Online publicity for the "Beyond Special Edition" led me to believe there would be extra content vs. the magazine version. If there was, I couldn't spot it. So this isn't going on my must-buy list.

You're right, the "Beyond Special Edition" was a total swiz. Unlike with other movie specials Titan got greedy, and thought the uber fans would buy it irrespective of whatever the content was. If you buy the regular mag though it was pointless.

Would be a shame if the Discovery publication ended up the same. You might be correct though.

David Mack now has the book as Desperate Hours on his websites and lists a January 2018 release date.

The release date is just a guess/placeholder. I don't actually know when the show will premiere, so I bumped it to January 2018 so I could re-order the book list on my site. It might be coming earlier, but I won't know that much sooner than anyone here will.

Thanks for the update/correction. I have posted a clarification on my blog as well.
