Discovery tackles current political divide

Isn't Star Trek supposed to be about humanity and not only USA? Now it turns out that Discovery is CBS' take on the internal U.S. politics. Wow, that just oozes "diversity"! :)

Well political divides exist all over the world not just in America

you do realize the following:

- Star Trek was created and produced in the U.S. primarily for U.S. audiences. (That's the same for every incarnation.)

- Yes, they do license and distribute it for profit worldwide as they know fans in other countries exist; but it IS primarily a form of entertainment designed for U.S. audiences.

- GR liked to claim the series was made with a worldview of the Earth in mind - but it's still a very American/U.S> based view of said world.

Without getting too much into real-world politics, many other countries besides the US are experiencing conflicts and division between populism and globalism, issues that ST-Disc supposedly will address in some way.

Private Little War, the examples go on and on.

That was on-the-nose but not exactly preachy; it felt very ambivalent, even (internally) conflicted about its inspiration (which is a pretty rare but IMO usually more interesting approach to social commentary).

Star Trek was always left leaning but it's politics rarely were full on display really. And if it was it was rarely done well.

US is a political party system that is mostly homogenized with very little difference between the 2 political parties. Trump is essentially doing the same things Obama did just like Obama essentially ran a similar government as Bush did etc. I've seen very little political difference between parties in my 34 years of life. I'm not a republican or a democrat for that reason. It's all rhetorical and media driven.

Very true.

Pre 2017: Obama deports record numbers of illegal immigrants. Reaction: Crickets.

2017: Trump continues that policy. Reaction: Heads exploding, cries of "Next step is surely death camps!"

Pre 2017: Paris convention on global warming. Reaction: Criticism for not doing enough. Climatologists claim that the effects will be insignificant.

2017: Trump pulls out of the agreement. Reaction: "OMFG! HES LITERALLY DESTROYING THE WORLD!!! ALSO DEATHCAMPS!!!"

It's all a show now a days, and despite all the noise and flash, there's very little actual difference.
