Discovery Showrunners fired; Kurtzman takes over

The only two things I remember that actually kinda clash with canon are the cloaking stuff (but to be fair Enterprise kinda screwed that up already) and the Spore Drive (which I expect to be phased out later in the series)

They already put a lid on the drive in the season finale.

Although I wouldn’t be surprised if they ignored that in some situations, like they did with the warp speed limit in TNG.

I have a feeling that there are a lot of women and people of color who would disagree with your assessment about Michael Burnham and her appeal within the franchise

I can't speak for the entire black population, but I think Burnham is a fairly dull lead. I think that's on the writers more so than Sonequa Martin-Green, but it is what is. I also post on a predominantly African American message board and the reviews for Burnham and the entire show are mixed much like every other forum. The only thing that's agreed upon is that she's attractive and she looks like the pornstar Harley Dean.

I also think you're underestimating the appeal for a post DS9/VOY Trek among long-time casual viewers and among new viewers that came to the show via Netflix and like following the timeline of events. It seems like every week on Reddit, there's a thread asking what comes next.

Reddit is not a good barometer for gauging the interest of DS9 or VOY outside the core Trek fanbase.

Thanks for that bit of trivia.

I honestly don't think I am underestimating it in the slightest, and I don't think that a few random Reddit posts in any way reflect the complexity in the marketplace for expanding a niche sci-fi franchise like Star Trek.

Ok, how about the Netflix data showing that the most popular Trek episodes are from TNG and VOY?

The only thing that proves is more people are clicking the play button on a some Star Trek episodes more than other Star Trek episodes. It is in no way evidence of what Star Trek concepts would be the most successful. It isn't even evidence of which Star Trek episodes are the most popular.

Well, if a Star Trek series were being made strictly for Netflix, and I were running Netflix, I'd make a Star Trek series that would be like whatever's getting the most clicks.

Yes... I realize what I just typed...

An episodic series with catsuits, lots of technobabble and liberal use of the reset button?

Which means what, exactly?

Netflix almost certainly does not pay big fees for streaming rights to this kind of backlist content, and they don't provide any public viewing figures or ratings that would enable you to gauge the real size of an audience for such shows. To claim that one episode of Trek or another is "more popular" than another tells you nothing about the current level of interest or potential market for such stuff.

Additionally, all that potentially means to me is that people own the home media versions of TOS because it's worth it to them, and will more frequently do a "browse drive-by" of the TNG era stuff on Netflix.

That's basically what I do.

Again, the if VOY and TNG were so incredibly popular and marketable, you'd have seen a TNG or VOY re-boot in 2009, not a TOS one.

This isn't rocket science guys. I think there's a lot of "my series" bias impacting our logic and critical thinking skills. Any argument that TOS is not the most easily recognized, marketable, relevant pop-culture element of the franchise-at-large is frankly outright incorrect. If we do away with our "but ...I grew up on Kes and Chakotay...so nostalgia and stuff!!!" biases, it's a very obvious fact of the world we live in.

It's also possible some of those numbers are skewed by people rolling a fatty, sitting back and putting Threshold on.

Not that I have an idea, mind.

That makes no sense??

Indeed. Really 'most watched' and especially 're' watched does rather reflect interest
