Read this on the article Entertainment Weekly did about Fuller's reveals for Star Trek Discovery.

Will the Discovery look like the Enterprise?

Saucer section, the cells, and the design that we leaked early on has changed considerably. But it’s still very much inspired by those [Ralph McQuarrie] illustrations.

Why oh why...Well least they have changed some elements.

Needs TOS fonts, markings. Maybe the ENT hull colours and some touches of those hull markings/elements. Larger Saucer. Then I will feel better about it, knowing which era it is meant to be part of.

I think Fuller must've said "nacelles" and the EW writer misheard it as "the cells."

I thought it was just slang. You know "the 'cells."

Of course if Fuller wanted to be authentic he could have called them the "pods."

I had started to like the original look, felt it only needed some refinement. Now I hope they didn't go too far, ended up ruining the thing with too many mods.

I'm curious about the final form this will take.

Hell of it is, there have been so many great fan designs over the years (kitbashes) as well as some of the FASA stuff, that I wish the creators would be willing to part with a little royalty and consider using one of the great designs that has already...been designed.

I guess for that teaser video, they gave the designers the artwork, and said give us a quick video of this flying. A broad idea of the style they are contemplating. I hope they bring in someone with some Trek experience, to refine it, balance it, and bring in the details that will make it fit the era.

A few days after the reveal of the ship on comic con I saw an ad online, where they were hiring 3d artists. This means, when they threw the comic con teaser together, they hadn't even hired the artists working on the show regulary.

I can't wait to hear Andrew Probert's opinion when we get the final design. That cranky man is very insightful. And cranky.

Hoping the final version is closer to the McQuarrie concept art. Not fond of the curves added to the saucer top or the nacelles in the prototype footage.
