Discovery: rate the new ship (five options)

There've been some complaints about limited options in the previous poll (limited to "Yes, it's gorgeous" or "No, I find it slightly unappealing").

I'd like to get a more precise view of people's opinions, which should be interesting in light of the time we've had to begin to get used to the look of the new ship.

It is fine. It is not beautiful, but somehow I don't think it's supposed to be.

As it is, I think it's ugly but as has already been pointed out, it's unlikely to be the final look of the ship so let's hope they fine tune the design by the time the show goes to air.

So, I rated "not beautiful but interesting," which is where I'd also put Serenity, the ships of Star Wars, everything in Babylon 5 and the Discovery in 2001. IOW, no problem at all.

I went with "not beautiful, but interesting", although that's too harsh for my opinion. I think its a really cool design, that isn't classically "beautiful" but I like it.

With all the threads and discussion on the ship, it would be kinda funny of they're trolling us and we get a completely different ship.

Personally, I've always liked the POTT ship, just not as a refit Enterprise.

I went with "Ugly and/or inappropriate, but not a total deal-breaker". I think it actually looks good from a few angles (mostly the front view), but not most. I do however, slightly prefer it to the McQuarrie version.

I'm fine with the angular stuff, but it's the proportions I find unappealing.

The music makes me think it's a villain ship.

The POTT design gives me pause. I like the updated details, lighting, and colors, but I just don't know about the overall shape of the ship.

I'm kinda SMH that this is the choice for the new series.

It is a little like how a C-130 or A-10 are interesting looking but non-beautiful aircraft. That is an acceptable quality to have for a warship.

The video was only a teaser of sorts, with an early build of the ship, but I do not expect it to change much. It is probably waiting for nothing more than finer details and tweaking of the texture and lighting so it doesn't look so obviously fake.

The A-10 Thunderbolt is a great analogy! It will never be as "sexy" and "cool" as the F-22 Raptor and the F-15 Eagle (it's nickname is the "Hog" after all) but it's such a visually interesting aircraft. It looks more like a WW2 warbird but it's a very effective and durable machine. It will always be a favorite of mine!

Yet, some folks may find it so. I agree, most people will look at an A-10 and see nothing sexy about it. I am one of those who finds it lovely because it looked like a WWII warbird. I may be an oddball, but I always found the A-10 a sexy beast , where as something like an F-15, I found sleek, yet souless and not really "sexy"

I too chose the not-beautiful-but-interesting option. And I agree, I don't think it was intended that this ship be beautiful.

I think the A10 analogy is useful. The A10 has an official name-"Thunderbolt II" (there was a WWII warplane, the P-47, named "Thunderbolt"). But pilots refer to the A10 as the "Warthog".

Now we know-Discovery is a Warthog class starship.
