Discovery in the Movie Era?

I another thread, I touch upon the idea that Disco feels rooted in the '70s. Direct quote:

"Whenever I try to picture Discovery as a TOS-looking show, I just can't. I think to myself, "Thank God they didn't go with that." Whenever I try to imagine what DSC would've been like if were of another era, I keep thinking back to the '70s. I look at the concept art, I look at the show which reminds me of the movies, and I keep thinking this feels more like it would be a '70s or TMP-era show. Even the nickname for it is Disco!

It's just not a "60s" show and imagining it as such, even though some might prefer it, just feels wrong to me. It's not Discovery."

Imagine if DSC took place in 2276-77 instead of 2256-57. The Organian Peace Treaty is broken completely. All-Out War with the Klingons breaks out. At the end of the season, we run into the Refit Enterprise and, in S2, Admiral Kirk takes command of the Discovery.

Hmmmm... Ehhhhh... I prefer before the movies to in-between them. In this case between TMP and TWOK. Only because I prefer Pike in command, since we hardly ever saw him, instead of Kirk. Having Kirk take command of Discovery would be like Picard taking command of DS9. It's just going a step too far. Even for me.

Then there's the Mirror Universe. Spock should've effected change by this point, 10 years after "Mirror, Mirror", meaning Georgiou and Lorca would be fighting a losing battle against Spock's increasing faction.

Of course, I'm keeping the same series but just shifting the time-frame by 20 years. It looks to me like setting the show in the TOS Film Era rubs against TOS a lot more than setting it just before it. Because as the series is, TOS hasn't had a chance to effect things yet. If you shift it into the heart of movie territory, it has.

I thought this thread was going to be about where the Discovery is during the movie era i.e. not necessarily looking to change the time when the show takes place, but rather examining the ship 20-30 years after the events of the show as it is now. I still really like the idea that the Discovery is further refitted by 2285, and that we even see her in Spacedock in "Search for Spock". :)

We can drive the topic into the angle and further. Seems like the Crossfield Class is still in service even in "The Best of Both Worlds". I think one of them is part of the wreckage in the Battle of Wolf 359. Or it's in the space junkyard the Enterprise visits in "Unification, Part I" It's one of the two.

Maybe the Nacelles can be upgraded in the show, and you can nudge it into Movie Era Cannon

The Planet of the Titans study models weren’t used in BoBW. As Ar-Pharazon showed, one was used in TSFS and the other was used in Unification. And there are quite enough differences between the Crossfield class and these study models that they are obviously no longer the same class.

demonstrates a design lineage or superclass, like TOS Connie/Refit Connie
When the model was shown in the background in TSFS I think it was maybe 1 of 5 unique Starfleet designs shown up to that point not counting screen diagrams of Hermes/Saladdin
