While it had previously been announced that David Semel was serving as director of the show’s premiere episode, it was revealed that episode two will be directed by Vincenzo Natali, whose credits include the features Cube (1997) and Splice (2009).

I knew (or was hoping) Natali would do some Trek. He's worked with Fuller several times now.

This doesn't bode well for the Discovery redshirts.

Now we might get to see what a transporter malfunction really looks like.

According to an Interview with Bryan Fuller at Collider, Natali is not just directing an episode he will also be the producing director of Discovery.

Do you know the directors you’re going to bring in?
FULLER: We haven’t booked directors yet. We booked Vincenzo Natali, who will be our producing director, but he’s not directing the first episode.

I'm also interested in knowing who there going to bring in as Director of Photography.

I was hoping for James Hawkinson who worked extensively on Hannibal also, but he appears to be working on season 2 of Man in the High Castle. Even my number 2 choice, Stephen McNutt from NuBSG, has a great gig on Outlander, so thinking caps on.

Hugo - Perhaps Michael Weaver from Pushing Daisies, keep it in the Fuller-Family?

Producing-director. The positions are proliferating.

Not sure if sarcastic or serious.

A large number of show these days has a producing-director on board. Having a lead director on board to set a "house style" and work closely with the other guest directors has become very common place. Michael Rymer was the producing director for NuBSG, David Slade for Hannibal, Robert Singer on Supernatural, Tim Van Pattern on Boardwalk Empire, David Solomon on Buffy, John Cassar on 24, Ian Toynton on Bones, Thomas Schlamme on the first four seasons of The West Wing.

In fact many shows these days have a troika of production lines: a Showrunner (overseeing everything) but mostly running the writing room, a Producing Director running the shoots and the "Line" Executive Producer running the day to day operations.

So in this case, it will be nice to have someone as talented as Natali on board to being a cohesive style to the show.

Hugo - If it's crap to listen to, then I believe it will be nice to watch, at least.

I loved Natali's work on Hannibal, in particularly that evocative hart from Primavera:

I hope Michael Rymer becomes involved too, he was one of the lead directors on Hannibal too as well as his gorgeous work on BSG:

ok but cube was not brilliamt and solice was just weird so i can altqdy imagine where the show is going and its this rate between the lower expectation thread , the casting thread the paid subscription thread and the delay thread plus the seemingly required mandatory lesbian scenes required in all sci fi and supernatuarl movies i think i will wait until the whole thing is on netflix or late night cable

What the hell are you talking about?

I agree with soornge. I haven't seen any news yet that makes me think that this is going to be something that I will enjoy. Fingers crossed that I'm wrong though. :)
