- Are you liking Discovery thus far? Liking it, but not loving it. Waiting to see where it goes from here.

- Who's your favorite Star Trek character? Because he was a leader who kept cool, was able to inspire others and felt loyal to those who serve on his commands, Kirk.

Are you liking Discovery thus far? Yes / No, I didn't enjoy ep 1 and 2, but 3 made me "appreciate" 1 and 2 more, and I liked ep 3, so I suppose im in the middle, ep4 may throw it over the edge for me
What's your favorite Star Trek show? TNG Hands down
Who's your favorite Star Trek character? Porthos? Nah, O'Brien. Not featured as much but I like his practical balance of family, work, reminds me of the every man.
What are your Top Five shows of all time? Im going based on enjoyment here, not what I think are the "best" shows
Damn, that's a tough one. XFiles, TNG, Friends, laugh at me all you want but that show cracks me up. Boondocks, too short but amazing show, Jessica Jones, only one season but dayum.

An observation: Interesting how often Garak comes up as a favorite character. I love Garak, he's just the ideal blend of perfect writing for a character and flawless performance by an actor, but I don't think I would ever have put him up there with my most favorite characters. It's also interesting because he's kind of an anti-hero, whereas other favorites like Spock, Kirk and Picard are more classically heroic.

Firefly wasn't "mucked up"; it was intentionally screwed with in order to give FOX execs an excuse to pull a show they didn't actually care about and shouldn't have put on the air in the first place.

Yes, but I do still have some reservations. The show looks gorgeous. I am adjusting to the "newness" of it all. It's breaking new ground for Star Trek. Which is good, but doesn't feel 100 percent polished like some other golden age TV shows.

Deep Space Nine closely followed by TOS. I have fond nostalgia for TNG still.

Spock. His duality, internal struggle and daddy issues still resonate with me today.

Dunno how screwing it up on purpose doesn't fit "mucked up"
but you and I essentially agree.
The phrase "mucked up" implies, at least for me, that the series was unintentionally mismanaged.
"Liking" is a rather soft criteria on which to poll how posters are receiving the series. There's plenty of television that I like that I have not written 3500 or more posts on. To that end, I think you should ask how people are making Discovery part of their fandom: are they just watching, or do they intend to bring elements of Discovery into their other hobbies (collecting, costplay, gaming, ..), e.g.?
Nah, I just wanted to keep it as simple as possible. This is in no way a scientifically representative survey anyway. I'm just curious where the regulars here fall in terms of their Star Trek and television interests. Mostly I already have a relatively good grasp on how people feel about the show, having read their thoughts in the other threads.
Fair enough.
Now that I think about it I could easily make a top 20 TV show list. There's a lot of stuff out there. Magnum P.I. would probably just make that list, True Detective, all the Trek shows, the Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks, The Wire, The Handmaid's Tale. Could go on & on.
- Are you liking Discovery thus far? Yes. Through three episodes, it has gotten progressively better with each outing. Each so far has held my interest, and I'm really looking forward to further exploration of Burnham, Saru and Lorca in particular.
- What's your favorite Star Trek show? TOS. I like all of them, but TOS is definitely on top with DS9 and TNG (in that order) following behind as the others I not only like, but love.
- Who's your favorite Star Trek character? James T. Kirk. Other favorites are Spock, McCoy, Riker, Worf, Sisko, Kira, Bashir, Garak, Paris and Trip.
- What are your Top Five shows of all time? TOS, DS9, nuBSG, Seinfeld, Doctor Who.
