does anyone know why promos for following episodes of SG-1 were discontinued starting in season 9?

Time constraints - they wanted to fit more commercials in, which is the same reason they tried to axe the opening sequence too. The earlier promos were awfully long, though - IMO they showed a little too much of what was going to happen next week.

As opposed to the commercials Sc-Fi did run for the episodes during S9 & 10. Like the one for Ex Deus Machina while reveals that Ba'al's building was the bomb. Which turned out to be the plot twist at the end of the episode.
