Dimensions in Time..

So I have been reading up on a Doctor who special which seems really interesting to me, Dimensions in Time, a Doctor who charity special which was broadcast in 2 parts..

It apparently has the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th doctor all together battling the Rani..

it has numerous monsters, and a time loop trying to trap the doctor in the east end of London..

so here is my question...

is it good?

I loved the 3 doctors.. that was an amazingly cool and timeless episode of multiple doctors..

the 5 doctors is good, it features the time lords, and has all the doctors together, which was nice, especially Patrick Troughton.. (you know the more I see of good old Pat, the more I like his doctor the best, and feel a sort of channel of his acting style and persona in Matt Smith's portrayal..)

the 2 doctors was cool, not the best epi.. but it was still very good on certain levels..plus it was Patrick's last showing as the Doctor so it has a certain amount of historical value..

but I am not sure I should check this one out, so I am wondering if I can get a detailed review from some of those who have seen this particular special.. from what I can tell, it seems confusing..

Never heard of this before...of the multi-Doctor episodes I've only seen the Five Doctor's and thought it was fantastic.

It's pretty much the Doctor Who equavilent of the Star Wars holiday special-incredibly corny, badly made and squeezed all the Doctors, monsters, and companions into fifteen minutes.

Dimensions In Time is the rancid pustule on the arse of televisual entertainment. It goes right past "so bad it's good" and nosedives right into Sheer Bloody Awfulness.

Watch if you must, but beware. Once seen, it cannot be unseen....

Dreadful - it was done for the Children In Need charity and guest starred the Eastenders (British soap opera) cast.

I haven't seen it since first broadcast but I wasn't impressed at the time! I guess it's on You Tube but I believe the agreement at the time was that it would never get a commercial release or ever be repeated?

Its not good, but it is interesting to see all the Doctors/companions running about again.

As charity specials go however, Time Crash is better by a factor of...how big is Belgium again?

It's interesting only for the novelty of seeing The Doctors and companions again and seeing certain odd pairings. Otherwise, it's complete rubbish.

Basically I believe it was originally going to be a bigger special-The Dark Dimension, but things didn't pan out and we got this instead. The only real plus side is that Colin Baker finally got a scene with Brigidiar Lethbridge-Stewart, as apart from Hartnell he was the only actor not to (Although Courtney did star as another character during Hartnell's run)

A far more entertaining anniversary special is 30 Years in the TARDIS. It's hard to find and I don't think it's on any DVDs but it's basically a documentary chronicling the classic series and featuring recreations of classic scenes, such as the Cybermen at St.Paul's cathedral (Although using 80's style Cybermen). There's also an updated Cybermat. They even interview Mary Whitehouse, a critic of Doctor Who's violence throughout the years.

Part JNT wet dream, part brain enema.

It's confusing, badly written, embarrasing nonsense. Some of the dialogue is mind numbing in it's awfulness. Vogon poetry is mild by comparison.

However, despite these rather crippling flaws, it does contain a staggering number of doctors and companions, though they are jumbled together randomly and without a coherent reason (only some half baked rubbish about time streams slipping or something or other).

Consider yourself duly warned...

It's not all that bad - it's quite fun and it's all for charity. Peter Davison is good in it, Colin Baker meets the Brigadier onscreen, and Frank Butcher has a great funny aside to camera.

There's no such thing as canon, but in my view, there's no reason to suppose that this isn't actually a real Doctor Who story.

This. I also would add the term fanwank.

I think the unofficial explaination is that the whole thing was the seventh Doctors dream.

A shame though. With some script tweeks and a longer running time, it might have made a good story. Seemed just as plausible as The Five Doctors. At least imo.

Honestly, I don't hate it quite as much as some fans. The fact I know precisely dick about Eastenders (and couldn't be happier) probably helps. :)

from what I read there were several scripts out there that would have worked for this series, and were rejected.. one was them held up in a chapel fending off a crashed ship and wounded cybermen..

I would like to See Moffat give us a proper multi doctor serial soon..

And yet for the complaints about it they got 13 million viewers for both parts and a if I remember correctly a studio audience as well.
