Different Sins for Different Sexes?

I am noticing from your original post:

LUST, GLUTTONY, and SLOTH are all self-oriented behaviours.
PRIDE, ENVY, and WRATH are all social-oriented behaviours.

There is a clear gender correlation from that alone.

That's a very insightful observation.

This whole thing made me think of that video where the guy (I can't remember his name) is explaining that men's brains are full of boxes (everything compartmentalized) and women's brains are like barbed wire (everything connected).

He also said something that made me laugh out loud: A man's favorite box is his "empty box". Men can sit and do nothing for hours (sloth?). And there's nothing that makes a woman angrier than seeing a man doing nothing (wrath?).

Having been married almost 17 years, this does sound vaguely familiar....

So, wait, as the proud owner of a hoo-haa and second X chromosome, this would mean that the fact I enjoy nothing more than doing nothing makes me somehow freakish?

I guess i should find some sort of religious figure and confess that I totally enjoyed spending all day in my PJs watching crap in TV? Please let me know, because I wouldn't want to fall outside of the normative limits of my gender-identity.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying.

Cool.

Drunklogic for the win! :techman:

For men, the top three confessed sins were: LUST, GLUTTONY, and SLOTH.
This is sexist and offensive in the extreme. The Pope should be raped to death and his flesh consumed, then his bones made into the framework of a La-Z-Boy recliner.

Point proven ;)

Damn, beat me to it.

After a lifetime of listening to humanity's darkest sins... it's a wonder he has any faith left at all. I wouldn't be surprised if they're all closet atheists. :p

One more caveat: This list is also the priest's perception of people's sins. He is the one cataloging the sins into the 7 categories and thus he applies his own biases, education, etc. Perhaps if he had asked each individual what sin they believe they were committing he would have an entirely different list.

Catholics have a strong tendency to enforce (on themselves and each other) archaic gender roles.

I'll take Sweeping Generalizations for $200!

I think it's a bit more complex than that.

Really. *nods*

But RJ has a 'strong tendency' of his own. That being to enforce his negative views on the Catholic Church to all discussions as if they are fact rather than just his opinion. ;)

It's rather offensive, actually. Especially given how he insists on passing himself off as Mr. Tolerant.

But he doesn't see it, so I've given up. :p

Not at all. As I said, I grew up in a Catholic family; I'm familiar with the culture.
