Spoilers Differences Between "The Cage" and Discovery (Minor "Desperate Hours" Spoilers)

Without any acknowledgement of cultural context, which has been cited as necessary for understanding the concept at the time.

"The Cage" and "Where No Man Has Gone Before" has demonstrated that pants and tunics are available to female personnel. Since there is any real world parallels to military uniforms, there are likely duty uniforms as well as dress and utilities, but most female officers seen are on the Bridge or in administrative or support functions (i.e. Sickbay, Bridge, Starbase adjutant).

Nope, show me in TOS. Not the pre TOS rejected pilot and uniforms not used in TOS. Anyhow, my big issue was TOS it was silly, but it was the 60's so I ignore it. But the kelvin movies went that route and it was just stupid( sexy, but stupid)

They did both, actually in, both films and the series:

Screen caps of none reused cage footage with women in pants because I damned sure do not recall any
Oh please in TOS - "The Menagerie" both Number One and Lt. Colt were wearing pants in the briefing room, in the Transporter room and in the holding cage on Talos IV.

In TOS - "Where No Man Has gone Before" - Dr. Elizabeth Dehner (who was a full crewmember in that second pilot episode) was also wearing pants through the entire episode.

In TOS - "Charlie X" there were also more female crewmembers in pants as I recall too.

So its not sexist if its by choice. Don't judge them for the choices they make. Thats sexist. ;)

Well to be fair, most times the actresses would not have a choice. And I find it silly, but I will admit I was incorrect on in setting. No point in keeping arguing a point once you have been shown to be incorrect. I mean you can, but its kinda silly to do so.

I found out some of the episodes were female extras use pants. GSchnitzer, may he rest in peace, did more extensive research in another thread, here.

This isn't to elaborate the point, but to showcase the different times and episodes.

It was just a joke - I wasn't talking about the actresses, but the crew members in universe. We just established both as variants, therefore any (character) on screen in a mini skirt is doing so by choice. So who are we to judge? It was just an attempt to lighten the mood.

Thank you for relaying some of that information! While some folks will be satisfied with that, I find it kind of arbitrary and contrived. Only one class of starship in the fleet wears one kind of uniform, while the rest of the fleet wears something else altogether? Nah, not buying it.
It makes some sense, consider that it was the initial intent that the arrowhead insignia be exclusive to starship(like Enterprise) crews why not the entire uniform? in the real world only US Army Rangers wore a black beret until 2001 when it was made service-wide partially as move to boost morale one can imagine a similar move by Sta Fleet to make the crews of "lesser" vessels not feel like also rans, by uniforming them like their starship "Big Brothers"

Alien females in pants makes it easier for the costumer -makeup the face and hands only.

Men and women who need protection when doing work in the tubes, etc, can put a jumpsuit over their clothes to protect from stains, scuffs, tears, and exposure.

The only issue with that one is poor design. TNG also had those tunic dress uniforms.

Starfleet likeiky would have a kilt/skirt options as pants may not work for some species.

My big issue was ST09 reviving it
What's the difference between a skirt and a kilt?

Underwear.
