Die Hard V - Not Looking Good...

And the amusing "007 of Plainview, New Jersey" line leads me to believe there's more of that to come.

Could you explain that line, please?

The town itself doesn't matter, it's just McClane sarcastically calling (I'm assuming) himself James Bond, and remarking on how funny that is given his working class everyman background. He must have just done some James Bondian badass spy thing.

On second viewing, he says Plainfield, NJ, not Plainview, which confused me at first since Plainview is in New York.

It at least looks better than 3 and 4.

Although I agree by this point there's no real reason to call these "Die Hard" movies. To me what made the first movie work wasn't so much Bruce Willis or John McClane, it was the trapped-in-a-building idea. And they've just gotten so far away from that by now.

I think he talks to his son, who is supposed to be some kind of spy.

(@T'Baio)^Well, there were helicopters in the first movie, to be fair, when the FBI launched their abortive attack.

I do take your point though. I'd prefer a more localised and small-scale movie in the vein of the first one. This one, like 4.0, seems to be taking its cue from With a Vengeance more than the original movie. I love WAV and when it came out, it was a necessary break from the confined-space setting of the first two - but now it seems like each movie has to be bigger and more spectacular than the last.

The babes in leather do look a bit like a leftover from the Wiseman movie (though you could equally have argued that the blonde babe with the scar in WAV was just as misplaced).

I'll forgive it a lot of sins, though, if McClane is more like the spluttering, swearing, out-of-his-depth-but-won't-give-up cop of the first movie and less of the silent superman of the last one. From the look of this one, they might just have given him back some of his original traits. Here's hoping.

The scarred babe in WAV out of place. Hey, let's have some equality here, women can be terrorists too...

Hard to tell from a teaser trailer but I'd agree that that didn't look as bad as I expected, and to be honest if you cut together various bits of the first one you could probably make a similar trailer (helicopter gunship, tank, rocket launchers, explosions, automnatic weapons) I just hope this is more the "What the hell am I doing," John McClane than the superman of the fourth film.

..Lead by a Russian general (Patrick Stewart) intent on war. ??

Jack McClane:"The only thing worse than inviting a McClane to the party, is inviting two"

The second trailer is even better than the first and is very reminiscent of the first movie, with McClane in the airport and on the plane at the start. And a great final exchange of dialogue between the McClanes (which I won't spoil for you, go and watch).

Also, while the new poster isn't particularly inspiring, the tagline is: Yippee Ki-Yay Mother Russia! Love it.

I'm now optimistic and am earnestly hoping that I will have to eat a plate of humble pie about my initial predictions for the movie.

I had my reservations but that... looks... freakin'... awesome! :D Planted a big smile on this dial!

It might be able to make up for the previous one after all.
But then again, in the trailers even Prometheus didn't feel like the useless piece of shit we ended up with.

The trailer makes the movie look damn, damn good. Look forward to it.

This movie better be Rated Mother-Fucking R, though.

An airport, McClane being uncomfortable in the plane, a cab driver, an elevator, Beethoven's 9th, a casual Yippie Ki Yay, and McClane in a bloodied white shirt... at least there are a lot of elements that make me hope the director and script writers know their Die Hard better than those who comitted the atrocity that is Die Hard 4.

But I guess Willis plays it too cool again, just like he did the last time, just like he played any fucking character in the last 10 years.

But I might give this a chance on free TV after all.
