DIE HARD turns 25 today

A hero is only as good as the villain he's up against.

Another thing that the Die Hard creators understood is that humor will endear a character to the audience much more quickly than just watching him beat down the baddie.

*sigh* I can't believe this film was released 25 years ago. God, I'm old!

Born 25 years ago, died what.. just shy of its 19th birthday with the release of Live Free or Die Hard? A tragic loss :(

Best Christmas film ever, best action movie ever too.

I can still remember the first trailers…wondering what David Addison was doing running around with a gun

One of the few films to literally have me on the edge of my seat the first time I saw it on the big screen.

Alan Rickman made the original so much fun. Just the way he says his lines cracks me up every time:

- "Now I have a machine gun. Ho. Ho. Ho."
- "Nice suit. John Phillips, London. I have two myself. Rumor has it Arafat buys his there."
- "I am an exceptional thief, Mrs McClane."
- "You asked for miracles, Theo; I give you the F... B... I...! "

One of the most tense Hollywood thrillers out there. Harry Ellis was such a great sleazeball.

"Hans, bubie...I'm your white knight!"

But since Paul Gleason, who played Robinson, is last shown AS Karl is about to blast away----and NOT after Karl's taken out----I've always had a nagging suspicion 20th Century Fox has been suppressing one doozy of a deleted scene-fragment.
The scene is also scored with a tracked cue that James Horner did for Aliens rather than new material by Michael Kamen. Just thought I'd mention that in case it helps your theory... ;)

I think I prefer the ending as it is, Robinson's a dick, but I'm not sure he deserved to die, unlike Agent/special Agent Johnsons (no relation). DH5 really could have done with a Robinson or a Dick Thornburg type character
