I thought it would be fun to have a place to post facts and cool information about star trek. I'll star us off...

Did you know that star trek featured the first interracial kiss on American tv? :techman:

Malachi Throne (Commodore Mendez) was in Leonard Nimoy's first (The Cage as a Talosian) and last (Unification II as Senator Pardek) Star Trek episodes.

Initially Marina Sirtis was supposed to play Tasha.

Spiner was tested with a blue uniform, but that resulted in problems with his makeup.

Datas skin color was actually a bit more golden, but it resulted as whiteish under the studio lights.

The inital concept for Spock was for him to have red skin, a tail and to "eat light" via his skin. First the tail was nixed, then the red skin color was nixed because it resulted in total blackness on black and white TV.

At the time Jeri Ryan landed her role as Seven of Nine in Voyager, she just happened to be Co-Executive Producer Branon Braga's girlfriend.

Scott Bakula wasn't even thinking of doing Trek until they mentioned they wanted him to be the first captain of the Enterprise.

Not quite. There were a few before Trek did it.

Scotty has only nine fingers.

James Doohan did.

Was it ever apparent with Scotty on screen?

Once or twice. There was a scene in The Trouble With Tribbles later on in the episode when Scotty's carrying a whole lot of tribbles in his arms and you can see the gap where the finger should have been. I think there was at least one other but can't remember where from.

^I know theres at least one shot in Undiscovered Country on the bridge where he awkwardly puts his hands on the railing in such a way as to hide the fact that he's missing a digit.

Did you know that despite being in the opening credits, Cirroc Lofton only appeared in only appears in 71 out of all 173 episodes of Deep Space Nine?

ron moore grew a beard because rick berman said he hated beards

The sets of main engenerring, the battle bridge, transporter room and corridor of tng were all built from the movie sets.

Originally Tasha Yar was going to be of Hispanic descent (particularlly when Marina Sirtis was going to play her) and named LT. Macha Hernandez as Roddenberry was inspired by the character of Vasquez in the movie 'Aliens'.

Interestingly, Jenette Goldstein (the actress who portrayed Vasquez) also auditioned for the part that became Tasha Yar.
