Did you honestly think you'd see Portho save the ship ?

Guy Gardener

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
I did.

Before I saw the dog who got the role, I wrote a post about my expectations of Enterprise here, and in the many, many, many instructions I was wishing on the universe, I did demand that the Captains Dog would be slathered in green blood and caked gristle from ripping a Romulan Soldiers throat out who was in danger of doing something harmful to his loyal master Jonathan.

When I saw how small Porthos was, I needed that scene even more, because with the size of his mouth, he wouldn't have been able to get clean through in one chomp but more so lock on and gnaw through and the Romulan running and spinning and tries to dislodge the beagle.

The dog should have had more screen time... Were the other crewmen allowed pets?

I thought having the captain have a pet and it be a small dog was silly. If they'd discovered the dog on a planet and felt sorry for it, taking it in based on sympathy -- that'd be a cooler storyline.

I'm imagining Porthos being taken hostage by the Kzinti. Possibly a disasterous First Contact involving butt sniffing and chasing the Ambassador up a tree...

After buying a beagle on my own, it urks me quite a bit that TPTB used the breed on the show. They aren't meant to be cooped up indoors, even on a starship as large as that, as they love to sniff and explore outdoors.

But Porthos is a cutie...he's much smaller than mine.

What would've been better, a chimp dressed in a Starfleet uniform.

Then he could gain intelligence and talk at some point.

No, I knew no one would be silly enough to have Porthos save the ship so I never expected to see it.

Not even in an episode where he hyper evolved into a Mog? I mean if Mel Brooks didn't sue, but you can't tell me that that Ferengi episode wasn't originally written for Porthos?
