Did you catch this musical intro?

He played the Star Trek fanfare before "Amazing Grace." It was too many notes to be a coincidence. I wonder if he comes from such a secular, non-Christian background that he thought "Amazing Grace" actually came from Star Trek.

Harve Bennett, who required Horner to include it in the music, had no idea what song it was when he heard it at a funeral. He just liked it as a melody and thought it should go in the movie. A lot of show business people don't know Christian music.

He talks about the "light that grew and became a bright beam in the universe..." so I'd say it's at least a reasonable bet it was intentional.

I'm more confused by the fact that 1:24 to 1:40 sounds quite a bit like the "Sam's Home" theme from Quantum Leap. Surely that has to be a coincidence. (Or I'm losing it. Also a fair bet.)

Edit: Turns out it's a piece popularized by Dvorak*, which has picked up the alternate name of "Going Home" over the years. That melody and name combo makes me think that Velton Ray Bunch almost certainly intentionally aped it for Quantum Leap. Today I maybe learned, but have yet to confirm. :)

*He didn't write it, he "found" it. Long story. Some of which is in the comments on that video.
